Also, he had seen that Swadheenta had left the house that morning. And the only reason she would do it is because she intended to use Manohar's name. That was the ultimatum Suhasini gave to her. So, why then was he shocked when he heard her use his name in court. He should have expected it. I think he did it to put on a show for the others.
