Have you tried using background eraser? Or try quick selection tool?

PS mein use selection tool which is right below your marquee tool its called polygon lasso.. select magnetic.. and slowly trace it... if you go wrong press delete key it was catch the last pixel... or sure magic wand tool for monotone background to select it...
