It seems like one of those cases where we stumble upon an object, we keep it, treasure it and one day somebody comes and tell us its something HUGE and then they ask to hand it over.😆 Sam's usually the research type guy, must have found it somewhere.

Jo appeared before in season 2 as well, right?

I saw her for the 2nd time today, the first was just a glimpse of her in one of season 2 episodes.But I like her already, I have a feeling she'll be crucial.

it was given to him by bobby.
in season A Very Supernatural Christmas
there is a flashback.
sam has it wrapped up for john.
but when he does not show up on christmas he gives it to dean.
