RANCHI: The decade-long ordeal for Sonali Mukherjee (27), who lost her eye sight and became partially deaf, finally ended with chief minister Arjun Munda offering her a government job.

As a teenager Sonali was trained in National Cadet Corps (NCC). She was only 17-years-old when one horrific incident changed her life forever.

Sonali was allegedly harassed for years by neighbourhood youths. When she opposed to their lewd attempts, three assailants attacked her with acid in 2003. After the attack, her face was disfigured and she was left complete blind and partially deaf.

Since then, the victim and her family members have kept visiting hospitals and government departments for treatment and justice. In this process they have spent their entire life saving and also sold plot of ancestral land to fund her court cases and medical treatment.

After running for justice and help for almost a decade Sonali recently approached Union minister for women and child development Krishna Tirath for help. However, when her pleas fell on deaf ears, she sought permission to end her life.

"I had lost hope as my struggle appeared to be endless. Today I am happy that the chief minister has come to my rescue and help," said Sonali and recalled how Munda's personal intervention in 2003 had helped her in getting the case lodged at Dhanbad.

She revealed that now people have started extending help for plastic surgery and even for the judicial battle.

Police officials in Dhanbad said that Sonali and her family members were facing tough time especially after two of her attackers, Tapas Mitra and Sanjay Paswan, were released on bail six years ago. The third accused Brahmadev Hajra, was let off on the account of being a juvenile at the time of crime.

"Sonali and her family even had to abandon their home in Dhanbad after she started getting threat calls from the attackers. Now that she will get a job and probably live in Ranchi we hope that her agony will come to an end," said police.

This is really one of the heart tearing story ever seen in Crime petrol.
How could the criminals get bail so easily...this brings out the true scenario of our system and of our culture. Whenever a female raises a voice against injustice, she is always branded as a characterless woman.

Its really horrifying how she and her family suffered for 9 whole years and nobody did anything, neither police, nor government! That minister for womens and childrens welfare Krishna Tirath should be FIRED for negligence!
Those 3 horrible criminals shd be arrested again and given life imprisonment because Sonali is disfigured for life!
Thanks to her TV interviews, media uproar and social media reactions and protests, Jharkhand Govt finally gave her a job, her family have housing now and lots of organizations and ppl have sent her dad money for her treatment. But those criminals are still roaming free, enjoying normal lives! People in Dhanbad shd take action against these 3 men!
Everybody...Please sign the petition for Justice for Sonali at hallabol.com...especially those of u who live in India please join the movement and fight for justice for this brave girl!

After seeing Sonali's story in Crime Patrol ,I was totally shocked. What is happening in our country? How Sonali and her family survived in these 9 years ? No words can describe the pain which they have gone through. Those 3 guys are roaming free , shame on us. Any punishment given to those guys is less and they do not have any right to live. I pray for Sonali and fully support her.

Even I was very sad for the whole day...
But in a country like India, these type of men are allowed to do this with other girls too...😡

This story moved me too much! I googled abt the case and found out all I could abt Sonali and her latest news! Her story has spread all over the world now thru Crime Patrol!
Many organizations and corporate donors and kind individuals from India and abroad have sent money for her treatment.
Good news is she finally has enough money for plastic surgery and it was started 2 days ago, the first of many surgeries she would have to undergo to try to fix her face and eyes! Lets hope and pray she gets a better life now!
But more important, a cry for justice has gone out against those 3 criminals who had thrown acid on her, who are leading normal lives outside jail! They MUST be arrested again and brought back to jail!
And also Indian Govt and Supreme Court MUST pass stricter laws against such acid throwing crimes which are getting more widespread nowadays! Acid is too easy to buy at the market for only Rs 60/ ...this shd be banned! So criminals dont get such easy access to dangerous acids like that! And any acid attackers shd get minimum of 25 years jail time and heavy fines to pay for the treatment of their victims!

Hope Sonali gets back her normal life back...
I think these kinda criminals do not have any right to live and they should be burned in public or shot dead as in countries like China. Only then these type of boys will get a lesson.
