Videocon,Sansui declare Dhoni,Dravid out of ads!

Following the dismal performance of the Indian cricket team at the World Cup, Videocon Industries and Sansui Ltd, who have used cricketers in their advertising campaigns are looking to replace these fallen stars. Videocon is pulling Mahendra Singh Dhoni from its ads and will go with film stars instead, while Sansui is dropping beleaguered Indian captain Rahul Dravid. An agitated VN Dhoot, chairman, Videocon Industries Ltd, said, "We feel cheated by the hopeless performance of Team India. We had signed Dhoni three months ago considering him to be one of the gems of the Indian cricket team. But he has failed miserably. Dhoni is out of Videocon ads and we cannot rely on Indian cricketers any further. We will soon sign film stars for our new ad campaigns." Meanwhile, Sansui Ltd has decided not to extend its contract with Rahul Dravid. Says Anil Khera, director-sales & marketing, Sansui, "Our 40-day campaign with Dravid began in February 1, 2007. Fortunately, the contract ended before the World Cup began. Since Sansui is not a sponsor of the World Cup, we could not run the campaign when the World Cup was on." The company will not feature Dravid in its new ad campaigns, said Khera, adding, "We have lost Rs 6 crore on our Rahul Dravid ad campaign." Videocon Industries spends Rs 125 crore on advertising every year (the company spent Rs 15 crore on this World Cup alone), while Sansui Ltd spends Rs 30 crore. LG Electronics, the official global sponsors of the World Cup, has spent Rs 50 crore on its ad campaigns, while the company's yearly adspend is Rs 250 crore. Samsung India has spent Rs 10 crore on World Cup promotions.
