TRINIDAD: You guys in your living room were not alone trying
desperately to check your emotions after India's near exit from the
World Cup. You had master batsman Sachin Tendulkar for company who
probably knew that the loss to Sri Lanka could be his last World Cup
match.
When Munaf Patel was caught by Chaminda Vaas, Sachin couldn't hold
back his emotions. Having got out for a duck in that game, Sachin
was particularly peeved at himself for not being able to see India
through. Someone who's never been emotive, Sachin then locked
himself behind the doors of the Indian dressing room's bathroom.
Sachin was not the only one to be overcome with emotions. S
Sreesanth's emotions got better of him as he too broke into tears.
He was consoled by close friend and World Cup debutant Robin
Uthappa. But the Kerala fast bowler was inconsolable. While his
teammates in their tears, Zaheer Khan broke a chair in the dressing
room.
Later, Dravid talked to his team for one last time. He began by
thanking each and every member of the team including the support
staff. There were no individual names taken but spoke highly of the
group. Dravid didn't touch upon the loss but went about taking the
positives out. He mentioned how the youngsters in the team would
have benefited from this event.
Dravid then urged each member not to blame any one individual for
the loss.
