Mathematics is predominantly numbers and calculations, and quite often, considered cumbersome and mundane. But it also has beauty and romance. And tonight, it will have ramifications too - possibly delirious, possibly disappointing, but most definitely pertinent.

In isolation, this is a game of cricket. Featuring Afghanistan, fighting for survival and in last-ditch territory, and Sri Lanka, pace-setters currently but one bad game away from seeing their campaign cave in. One of them will lose tonight. But the intricacies and intertwining of cricket, mathematics, round-robin formats and that oft dreaded three letter acronym (aka NRR) is such that despite the certainty of one team losing, there could still be two winners tonight.
