Prasad: I love the field setup by Gill, making the England batters earn every run. This puts pressure on the mindset of the England team, who are favourable to play Bazball.

Roshan: Very similar opening session to the first 2 tests, was a shared session thanks to 2 wickets from Reddy, but makes you wonder if the Ind bowlers made an impact or have the English batsmen done well to curb the attacking streak

STAT: In the seven previous Tests at Lord's since 2022, batting teams have averaged 19.88 and lost a wicket every 40.4 balls with a false shot % of 25.7 in the pre-lunch session on day one. England batters have done better than average scoring 83 runs and losing just two wickets despite playing a higher share of false shots (28.4%).

Tharun Manaprag: "With Boom's workload balance and Siraj's workhorse effort in the last 2 matches, Going defensive is the Offensive in Bazball. Something similar to what happened in Australia in the 5 match test series." There is something to be said for that. Getting overs into Bumrah's legs is a good long-term strategy

Maiden over by Bumrah.

Bumrah to Pope, no run, not much conviction in the appeal for caught behind! Short ball down leg, Pope looks to pull, misses and Pant dives across for a one-handed grab. Umpire isn't interested in the appeal

Pant looks in a lot of pain. That previous delivery smashed him on the fingertips of his left hand. He's jumping around as the physio pulls out the spray. His fingers are heavily taped up as it is, and he had needed some attention on them in the first session as well. It's taking a fair while and the rest of the Indian players use the opportunity to grab some drinks. After the spray, Pant is now given something to drink by the physio. Jurel seems to be getting active on the sidelines. Seems like he has been given the signal to be ready in case he's needed as a sub.

Jurel coming on as the substitute keeper. Pant leaves the field.

Pant continues to grimace on the sidelines and the physio is tending to him
