Good luck both nations

Pitch and conditions: Rain forecast on all days

Rain has been forecast for all five days, which will test the ground's drainage facilities. The Sylhet pitch has even bounce and a bit of pace, which should make the strong pace attacks happy.

Stats and trivia: Zimbabwe's happy memories in Sylhet

  • Zimbabwe's last Test win in Bangladesh was also in Sylhet. They have won two of ten Tests in Bangladesh since 2001.
  • Sylhet is the most represented region in the current Bangladesh squad. Zakir Hasan, Jaker, Tanzim Hasan and Khaled all from the area.
  • Among the four Zimbabwe squad members who have played Tests in Bangladesh previously, only Ervine and Nyauchi are survivors from their last Test here in 2020

7/3/21/3 by Hamilton Masakadza really hurts Bangladesh in their own back yard here in 2025, he just removed Mushfiqar rahim for 4 & mominul Haq for 52.BD's only hope Jaker Ali still there 20* odd not out 182/7*

The youngest of the three Masakadza brothers to play international cricket for Zimbabwe - the others being Hamilton and Shingirai - Wellington Masakadza is a left-arm orthodox spinner and a useful lower middle-order batter. Masakadza first turned out for Zimbabwe at the 2012 Under-19 World Cup where he played three games and picked three wickets while scoring 24 runs.

It took him close to a year and a half to make his first-class debut for Mountaineers in the 2013-14 domestic season where he picked 5 for 63 in his very first outing against Matabeleland Tuskers. He played five games in his debut season and picked 15 wickets. In September 2014, Masakadza toured Bangladesh with the Zimbabwe A team and picked 6 for 63 in the first of the two four-day games.

Masakadza was subsequently called up to the senior team for the Bangladesh Tests in October 2014 but did not get a game. For the 2014-15 Logan Cup season, Masakadza switched to Mashonaland Eagles.

Masakadza made his ODI debut in October 2015 against Ireland and in just his fourth game, blew away Afghanistan with figures of 4 for 21. He made his T20I debut against Afghanistan in 2015 but took three more years to get his maiden Test cap, which he got against Bangladesh in Sylhet in 2018.

A left-handed batsman, he made his Northamptonshire debut in the T20 Blast against Derbyshire after a successful period in the 2nd XI where he scored 490 runs in six matches, having caught the club's eye while playing against them for MCC Young Cricketers. By the season's end he had amassed 251 runs at 31.38, headed by 83 in the final match of the season against Sussex.
