It will be no easy task given Sri Lanka themselves are in good form despite missing some key bowlers. Sri Lanka breezed past Bangladesh to currently top the group and will have to avoid a huge defeat in this encounter to progress into the Super Four.

It's a must-win game for Afghanistan. After losing to Bangladesh by a margin of 89 runs, they now find themselves in a situation which demands a convincing win against the defending champions, Sri Lanka. Here are the scenarios: If Afghanistan bat first and score 300, they would have to win by 70-plus runs. If they bowl first and concede 300, the margin of win has to be 76-plus balls. Surely, it isn't a straightforward task for Afghanistan, but we have seen them stun opponents many-a-times in the past with great skill and tenacity. Are we going to witness an inspired Afghan side, or will Sri Lanka extend their dominance?

How is the weather looking like? No chance of rain. Yes, you read that right. It's not Pallekele. The weather in Lahore has been slightly humid and sunny recently and expect more of the same today.

Flat track, once again? Recent history suggests that this is a batting-friendly venue with very little help for the spinners.

Sri Lanka arrive in batter-friendly Lahore with 11 ODI wins in a row. But the crucialness of the fixture and the calculations aside, here's a fair bit of warning: Afghanistan have beaten them in three of the last eight ODIs between the sides, with those wins coming in the 2018 Asia Cup, and once each in Pallekele and Hambantota. Madushka Balasuriya's preview says the rest.

In some build-up to today's game, former allrounder Farveez Maharoof believes Sri Lanka need to bring their A game into play against Afghanistan. And almost conveniently, former India batter Wasim Jaffer says Gurbaz and Zadran could be dangerous on a good track in Lahore.
