Bangladesh and Afghanistan will play in match number 3 of Asia Cup 2022 today. This is set to be the first match at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in this competition.

While Bangladesh will begin their campaign with this match, Afghanistan have started off the multi-nation tournament with a bang, registering a record win over 5-time champions Sri Lanka.

The eternal strugglers Bangladesh will open their campaign against a high-flying team in Afghanistan in the Asia Cup 2022. It will be the first match of Asia Cup 2022 that will be played at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

Afghanistan had a better record than Sri Lanka as far as the tosses are concerned in the last 5 T20Is and they ended up winning the toss in their first game as well. By contrast, Bangladesh did not win a single toss in their last 3 T20Is. So based on this stat, predicting Afghanistan to win the toss.

The overall head-to-head record suggests the advantage is with Afghanistan in this game. The recent form also suggests the same. While Afghanistan and Bangladesh have played 8 T20Is to date, Afghanistan have won 5 matches compared to Bangladesh who have emerged victorious on just 3 occasions.

Speaking ahead of the game, Bangladesh all-rounder Mehedy Hasan said his team would like to respond to Dasun Shanaka’s claim on the field. Shanaka had rated Afghanistan higher than Bangladesh’s.

“I don’t want to make a comment that this team is good and this team is bad. I think good and bad are proven in the field. A good team can lose if they play badly on that specific day. Similarly, a bad team can win if they play a good game of cricket. We will meet in the field and at the end of the day the good team will win the match,” said Hasan.

Pitch Report: Russell Arnold says the pitch will be on the slower side. It will get slower and slower as teh match progresses. It will be difficult to bat on. The bounce will be low as the pitch is not is firm. There is a hollow sound.

Afghanistan will still be on cloud nine after totally thumping Sri Lanka in the opening game of the 2022 Asia Cup. They now have a very good chance to top Group B by beating a shaky Bangladesh side. Bangladesh have a new T20I captain in Shakib Al Hasan following their overseas series defeats against West Indies and Zimbabwe, and he has quite an assignment on his hands to try and galvanize his troops for the Asia Cup and then the T20 World Cup.
