I teach a few 11th graders at times, the students who find vectors difficult usually are the ones having difficulty in forgetting maths while visualizing the physical phenomena. Do you feel the urge to find out the formula first while solving vector problems?

that's the problem. You need to FORGET maths while approaching the physics vector problem. Visualize and understand the physical phenomena first and once you're done with that, you can proceed with recalling and applying the mathematical formulae.
