WU: Kati Ungli Ka Rahasya (18th May, 2013)

Scene 1 ' A Desolate Spot

The episode begins in a deserted area at nighttime. Three toughs are seen trying to restrain a violently struggling man, all of them partly in shadows and thus unidentified. Another guy with an oil can walks up and orders his henchmen to force down their captive, and to wrench open his mouth. Once that's done, he pours a large amount of dark oil down the captive's throat and gloats that this is punishment for daring to cross him.

Scene 2 ' The Forensic Lab

The scene switches to the forensic lab, where the CID team and doctors are gathered around a severed finger preserved in ice. Dr. Salunkhe explains that the victim was a girl aged around 22-25 years, and she had been suffering from some renal problem and fungal infection as well. ACP sir instructs Nikhil to find out if any reports of missing girls matching this description had been lodged that week. Fredericks wonders how the victim's finger got to where it was recovered from.

Scene 3 ' Various (Flashback)

A fisher-maid is seen selling fish to various people across the city. Shortly, a customer chooses one of the fish and asks her to cut it open. She does so, and they're horrified to find a severed human finger lodged inside its gut.

Sachin and Rajat arrive to investigate, and collect the finger for examination. The maid insists that she knows nothing about how the finger ended up there, and that her husband was the one who caught this fish. Sachin finds nothing in the rest of her fish. Rajat gives her his card and tells her to ask her husband to meet them in the CID bureau.

Scene 4 ' The CID Bureau

Sachin arrives in the CID Bureau to find Fredericks looking contrite and thoughtful about something. After some coaxing and persuasion, he reveals that his wife is angry with him for failing to remember her mother's birthday. ACP sir arrives and sends him off to bring in the fisherman who had caught the fish with the finger in it. Sachin informs him that according to the records, five girls aged 22-25 years had gone missing that week. ACP sir says that they'll have to talk to their families about it. Fredericks arrives the fisherman, who informs them that he'd caught that fish at sea. Fredericks worries that finding the girl's body in the sea is going to be a very daunting task. ACP sir says that obtaining the victim's identity is crucial to unravel this mystery.

Scene 5 ' A Funeral

The scene switches to that of a funeral gathering. A young lady's body is laid out near her mourning family and friends. Abhijeet sir and Nikhil arrive, and are taken aback to realize that Kiran (the girl) is dead. Abhijeet sir talks kindly to her grief-stricken parents and asks them about the severed finger. They confirm that Kiran had been suffering from a kidney problem and secondary fungal infection. Abhijeet sir asks if they may check her hands; her mother objects to it, but her father steps in and allows them to go ahead. They check and find out that the hand is intact, but her fingernails are missing. Her father informs them that they had obtained her body from the morgue at one RK Hospital the previous day. Abhijeet sir reluctantly asks for Kiran's body to be sent to the forensic lab.

Scene 6 ' The Forensic Lab

The CID team arrives at the forensic lab. Dr. Salunkhe informs them that the severed finger was that of an elderly person aged around 50-55 years. He says that their earlier conclusion about it being a young lady's finger was based on examination of the fingernail alone. ACP sir laments that Abhijeet sir and Nikhil's efforts to fetch Kiran's body from her mourning ceremony were in vain. Dr. Salunkhe admits and apologizes for his mistake, but says confidently that the finger belongs to a 50-55 year old man who had been suffering from blood cancer. Dr. Tarika adds that the victim had died around 4-5 days ago. Dr. Salunkhe also points out that the finger had been crushed badly, possibly due to some accident. ACP sir instructs Nikhil to return Kiran's body to her family with an apology, and tells Rajat to look up about missing people matching the description of the older victim.

Scene 7 - Hospital

Abhijeet sir and the others visit a cancer treatment hospital and ask the receptionist if any patient in there matched the description of the older victim. The guy looks up and discovers that the details match with those of a patient named Puneet. He provides them with his residential address.

Scene 8 ' Puneet's House

Abhijeet sir and Nikhil visit Puneet's home and meet his son Rahul, who eagerly asks if his father has been found. He's shocked to learn about the severed finger and that the forensic description matches his father's. He explains that Puneet had met with an accident three days ago in the factory he used to work in ' both his hands had been crushed by a machine. He rushed his father to the hospital, but something unexpected happened there.

(Flashback)

Rahul rushes his grievously injured father into the hospital and hysterically calls for help. Leaving him outside a room, he rushes in and informs the doctor there about the situation. They hurry outside, only to find the stretcher vacant; Puneet is gone. The doctor grows annoyed thinking that it's a prank; Rahul is bewildered and desperately dashes about the hospital, calling out for his father.

(Flashback ends)

Rahul informs Abhijeet sir that the hospital in question was RK Hospital ' the same one where Kiran's body was found. Abhijeet sir construes that these two incidents could be connected in some way.

Scene 9 ' The Forensic Lab

ACP sir and the others arrive at the forensic lab. A hesitant Dr. Salunkhe informs them that the severed finger is actually both that of a male and female at the same time ' while the finger itself is Puneet's, the fingernail is Kiran's. Dr. Tarika tells them that Kiran's nail had been grafted upon Puneet's finger. He remarks about the incompetency of the doc who did this, because donors chosen for grafting are of the same gender in order to avoid danger of rejection by the body. ACP sir says that the root of all this lies in the RK Hospital.

Scene 10 ' RK Hospital

Abhijeet sir meets the doctor whom Rahul had asked for help, and criticizes him for not co-operating with Rahul on that day. The doc admits that he was contrite after realizing that Rahul was being truthful, and that nobody managed to find Puneet after that. Meanwhile, Sachin talks the ward boy who had accompanied Rahul, who too claims to have seen nothing. Nikhil meets a security guard, who insists that Puneet did not leave via the main gate. He informs Nikhil that there is another gate as well, which is guarded by one Raghu. Shreya talks to the receptionist, who claims to have seen nothing as well. Just then, a patient arrives claiming that she has an appointment with one of the doctors regarding nail-grafting. Shreya construes that Puneet's operation must've been performed in this very hospital. Abhijeet sir goes to meet Nikhil at the back gate after instructing Sachin and Shreya to meet the doctor who specializes in nail-grafting.

Scene 11 ' RK Hospital (Back Gate)

Abhijeet sir and Nikhil arrive to find Raghu dozing off. They give him a sharp wakeup call and question him about Puneet. Raghu remembers and informs them that Puneet had forcefully pushed his way out of the gate claiming to have some important work, despite Raghu advising him to get his horrid wounds treated first. He adds that Puneet had run off towards the right, possibly to the auto stand.

Scene 12 ' Auto Stand

Abhijeet sir and Nikhil arrive at the auto stand and manage to locate the driver whose services Puneet had taken. The driver tells them that he'd dropped off Puneet at an old deserted stream behind the Pushpa road. Nikhil wonders why Puneet would do that in his grievously injured condition, instead of getting treatment first. Abhijeet sir says that someone must've murdered Puneet and dumped his corpse into the stream, and his finger must've ended up inside the fish there.

Scene 13 ' The Doctor's Office

The nail-grafting doctor is seen talking to three of his students when Sachin and Shreya enter his office and start questioning him. He tells them that while it is technically possible to graft a female's nail upon a man's finger, it is not ideal and not done at that hospital. He doesn't recognize Puneet or Kiran and says that he doesn't know anything about that particular grafting. Sachin says that apart from him, his students are the only ones in the hospital who possess the skills of nail-grafting, and asks for their names and phone numbers, adding that they will be taken to the bureau for questioning.

Scene 14 ' The CID Bureau

Sachin and Fredericks interrogate the students and ask who among them was responsible for grafting Kiran's fingernail onto Puneet's finger. One of them remarks that such a thing is blatantly against the rules; Fredericks says that the doctor likely did it because Kiran's fingernails were easily available at the time. One of them, Jimmy, starts sweating and displaying unmistakable signs of nervousness. Upon being pressurized, he admits that he was the one who carried out the grafting, adding that he had no choice as Puneet was close to him.

(Flashback)

Jimmy is seen exiting the lab when a heavily injured Puneet stumbles up to him, supported by another person. Jimmy is shocked and concerned at his condition, but assures that they can try to fix the damage by nail-grafting. Puneet's companion, however, says that Puneet and Rahul cannot afford to pay for such a costly operation. Jimmy offers to cover some of the cost, but Puneet declines and requests him to do the grafting himself. Jimmy tries to explain that, as a student, he doesn't have permission to do that, but Puneet presses on and finally convinces him to do it. Jimmy instructs them to come to the hospital at night via the back door for the operation, and requests them to not repeat this to anybody else. Puneet thanks him, and tells him not to inform Rahul about this either before leaving.

(Flashback ends)

Jimmy explains that Puneet didn't want Rahul to know about this because he knew that the latter would be upset if he realized that they didn't have enough money for the operation. Fredericks criticizes him for using his medical skills in an illegal manner; Jimmy pleads that he had been very close to Puneet since childhood and could not bear to not help him. Sachin allows them to leave, and says that they'll have to look for Puneet at his last known location ' the stream.

Scene 15 ' The Stream

The CID team arrives at the stream with Rahul and some divers. Rajat explains the situation to Rahul and instructs the divers to go ahead and search the stream. Eventually, one of the divers finds a large knife in the water, and brings it up to the officers. They continue searching, and eventually locate a corpse in the stream as well. They bring it ashore, and everybody sees that the victim is Puneet. Rahul is devastated; Rajat assures him that his father's murderer shall face the death penalty.

Scene 16 - Factory

Daya sir and Vineet arrive at the factory Puneet used to work in, and meet the owner Harish and manager Dileep. They're shocked to learn about Puneet's murder; Dileep claims that Puneet was a careless worker and the accident was his own fault, but one of the workers named Gagan insists that the factory machines are in poor condition. Harish and Dileep in turn accuse him of murdering Puneet and point out that the two of them were involved in some dispute regarding money. Daya sir questions Gagan further, who says that Puneet had been nervous and frightened on the day he was murdered. Another worker reluctantly informs them that a guy there named had gone missing a day before Puneet's death. Harish admits that he had stopped Gagan from filing a missing report regarding Ramesh out of fear of their business suffering due to police investigation. Daya sir informs him that the factory shall be shut down until the case is solved, and says that Ramesh is certainly connected to Puneet's murder in some way.

Scene 17 ' The Forensic Lab

In the forensic lab, Dr. Salunkhe confirms that the severed finger belongs to Puneet, and he was killed using the knife recovered from the stream. He also reveals that they found a quantity of oil in Puneet's abdomen, which he had swallowed before being thrown into the water. ACP sir says that Puneet must've been forced to drink the oil, and the fact that he used to work at an oil factory indicates that the place holds more vital clues for them.

Scene 18 - Factory

Daya sir and Vineet arrive at the factory, and thoroughly search it. Daya sir eventually comes across a section of earth with appears to have been freshly dug. They dig through it and unearth another corpse; Vineet wonders if this is Ramesh. Daya sir instructs him to summon the factory's owners and workers at once. Harish and the others arrive and recognize Ramesh; they claim to know nothing about who did it. Vineet notes that Ramesh, too, was stabbed to death like Puneet. Daya sir remarks that somebody in the factory must be the murderer. He announces to the factory guys that a certain person, who actually witnessed Puneet's murder, is going to identify the killer at M.I Road once the clock strikes 7 PM, following which the killer shall be apprehended.

Scene 19 ' M.I Road

A man drives to the desolate M.I Road on motorbike, his face hidden by a helmet. An unknown person is seen watching this man from behind some trees. He loads a sniper rifle, takes aim at the biker and fires, knocking him off the motorbike. Packing the rifle, he goes up to inspect his work and pulls off the helmet, only to discover that the "witness" is none other than Fredericks and is perfectly fine, protected by his bulletproof jacket. The killer hops onto Freddy's bike and attempts to drive away. Rajat and Freddy chase him in the Qualis and manage to capture him ' he turns out to be the factory manager, Dileep. Rajat hands him a tight slap.

Scene 20 ' The CID Bureau

Dileep confesses that he and Ramesh used to steal oil from the factory and sell it at inflated prices after adulteration. After a while, Ramesh was consumed by guilt and decided to quit this nefarious work.

(Flashback)

Puneet discreetly watches Dileep and Ramesh conversing in the factory. Dileep tries to convince Ramesh against his decision, but Ramesh refuses and expresses his wish to become an honest man again. He also warns Dileep that he'll report him to Harish if he doesn't stop the oil-stealing biz. Dileep is enraged, and stabs Ramesh to death right there before asking his men to move out the body. A shocked Puneet watches as the thugs bury Ramesh's corpse in the earth outside the factory. He reveals himself and demands them to turn themselves over to the police, failing which he'll approach the CID. Dileep fails to intimidate him with death threats, and instead tries to tempt him with a bribe. Puneet leaves without saying anything.

(Flashback ends)

Dileep admits that the bribing failed as well, because Puneet was an honest and contented man. Therefore, he ordered his henchmen to seize Puneet and forcefully thrust his hands into one of the whirring machines. They fled as a grievously injured Puneet lay screaming in pain; Gagan and the other workers turned up and phoned Rahul about the "accident". Dileep and his men followed Puneet to the hospital, waiting to ambush him. Puneet went to the stream to retrieve the knife which had been used to murder Ramesh, and they used the same weapon to kill him. He adds that he poured oil down his throat to torture him ' which, as Sachin remarks, led to him being caught. ACP sir says that he shall now rot in prison until death greets him at the gallows.
