Kabir Sadanand is ready to don yet another hat. After acting on television and directing a film, he is now set to make his debut in television direction, with Sony TV's popular thriller series CID.
"My association with Fireworks, CID's production house, goes back to the days when I started my career as a TV actor in Family No 1," says Kabir. "So when they asked me to direct CID I was pretty excited. Firstly, it's not just another saas-bahu saga, secondly it is the longest-running thriller serial today."

Kabir had expressed his desire to direct CID even before he had made his foray into film direction with Popcorn Khao Mast Ho Jao. "He had told me long ago that he'd love to direct CID," says Yash Patnaik, executive producer, Fireworks. "He's an intelligent director. He has honed his skills under Lekh Tandon. So when we were looking for young talent, I suggested his name."
"We wanted a new look for CID," he continues. "Kabir being a young director can think out-of-the-box and bring that extra freshness that we wanted, to the show. Viewers like surprises, that's why most serials take 20-year leaps and introduce new characters. We took Kabir Sadanand instead." Kabir takes the onus of the failure of his debut venture Popcorn Khao... on himself, even as he's ready to launch his second film, a romance.
"The script was bad," he says. "But my next venture will have a better script. In Bollywood, you seldom get a second chance. I've been lucky to get one, and I'm going to make full use of it."
