CID has a new competitor: Powder. This YRF show has great cinematography, great situations, very realistic and looks like a very good show to me.

So, I ask you, what sets CID apart? IMO, I think it's the forensics.(Plz don't be offended by this😊)

Not seen a single episode of Powder, just never felt interested. Actually none of these YRF shows have generated any interest in me. The only show I saw two episodes of was - Seven. Superheroes and Special Effects were the reasons but it is unbearably boring, I could not take it anymore.

Yet to answer what could set CID apart from Powder, possibly our Trio. I doubt I could ever connect with any of those Powder officers even if I saw the series.

Powder mostly deals with drugs...CID has some 'drugs' episodes but deals with other cases too.
What sets CID apart - mainly the chemistry between the actors. We love the characters and they have been part of our life for so long. Even if it is a stupid episode, we still sit thru it just to look at Daya and Abhijeet and their bits of conversations.
Powder has a very very long way to go before it reaches that stage.

But the acting is so realistic and it's very fresh and everything sounds so legitimate. But yes I think the forensics and the trio set this show apart from others.

I don't watch it ....no time. I have very few selected programmes on TV and I have mentioned them in the Godh bharai thread. CID itself takes up so much of my time on TV, the rest of my family members are already complaining.

Personally I am not very fond of entertainment being - realistic. I mean if I had to see about real crime I would watch crime patrol instead. But I know Realism is the new flavour of the season. Be it movies or television, eveyone wants realism.

I guess it's because you can relate to actually how things work. But yes sometimes you need a little unrealism for pure entertainment purposes.

So far Powder and Rishta.com are the two YRF shows that have caught my interest. I watch very few desi shows and I prefer the weekly format versus the daily soap. Clearly Powder has a much higher budget and better production values than CID currently. It's also more realistic in its approach. I think the biggest difference is that Powder is highly serialized whereas CID is episodic in nature. You can basically jump in at any time, be it Episode 500 or 600 and start watching CID. But you can't really do the same with Powder. Because of this fundamental difference between the shows, I think it's a little unfair to directly compare them.

Powder focuses exclusively on one subject: drug trafficking and more specifically on nabbing one particular drug lord while CID has a lot of variety. CID is more about the mysteries, a detective story where the suspense is dealt with quickly. The quality of CID's story went down a lot but recently things seem to be improving. I think the fact that every case brings something new, and that suspense is not dragged out, is a huge plus point.

I think CID's established trio of ACP-Daya-Abhijeet and their long history works in their favour in a way that no other show has been able to duplicate. We are willing to sit through silly episodes just because of the chemistry of these actors. Powder has a long way to go before even thinking of achieving something similar.

Does anyone remember Shapath, a Zee show from the mid/late 90s? It was also a serialized police procedural show with high production values where the entire show was basically one long story. Kiran Kumar played the lead with Nikita Wadia playing his partner: a tough female cop. I used to watch it regularly. A lot of fun twists and turns (and they even dealt with cloning at one point!) until they dragged it on for too long. That's one concern I have about Powder: they shouldn't drag the story on for too long.

Overall, I like both shows. Obviously I like CID much more but Powder is good in it's own way.
