Written Update 27th August 2009
Part 1
Dadi tells Radhika, not to hesitate any more and accept Dev whole heartedly. You have not made a wrong decision by accepting this marriage proposal, it is happening by Kanha's blessings. I am getting a daughter-in-law just like Radha, my choti bahu. Dadi is about to leave when Radhika calls her and bows down, touches her feet for blessings. Dadi hug her and kisses her on the forehead. Radhika is all dressed up in a beautiful red saree. Everyone is happy to see her except Aama who is brooding in her corner along with the deadly trio ' Mrinalini, Arjun and Chachaji. Radhika is made to sit near Vaishali and Dadi. Dadi asks Deepika to start the ceremony. Deepika launches into a chatter that even she was wondering when will the dholak (drums) be played and the godh barai ceremony will start. No wedding related ceremonies can be started without the dholak. Vaishali points out to Shastriji that Deepika is right, and Shastriji agrees that he has already arranged for the dholak walas.Birju is happy and says then what is the delay, let us start the festivities.
Part 2
The dholak walas start to play and women start to dance on meri ladoo ki ayegi bharat (from Aaina if I am not wrong) which is supposedly being sung by Devki. Radhika is very shy and looks down for most part, but has a radiant smile on her face. Chachaji keeps looking at his watch. The women dancing drag Shastriji who is singing a song (I have no idea which one!) where he is basically teasing his samdhan Vaishali, who is blushing while the others are enjoying the exchange and laughing away. Aama is not amused at all. They then drag Deepika who dances on the song Gendha Pool from Delhi 6. Mrinalini looks irritated by all this. Radhika looks up at Dev at the line 'chora babul ka agana' (basically she is leaving her parents home to go to her husband's home). Deepika drags Arjun who spins her around and leaves from there disinterested. Deepika then in turn drags Mrinalini who gets annoyed and leaves in a huff. Deepika undeterred, coaxes Dadi to join her and Dadi dances along with Shastriji and Devki. Aama gets angry and brushes them off when they attempt to drag her. Deepika drags Chachaji to dance and after signalling Birju to move, he does some moves. Deepika attempts to drag Radhika while Dev is smilling away. Vaishali and Devki together coaxes her. Aama is looking very angry as Radhika is approaching Dev. Everyone is dancing around them, with Radhika being shy and looking down and Dev looking very happy.
Part 3
Chachaji keeps glancing towards the door. Dadi says it is time to start the Godh barai ceremony now. Mrinalini looks at Chachaji and is signalling to him. Radhika is made to sit on a chair with her (saree covering her head) pallu in her godh (lap). Deepika pours some shagun in her lap and blesses her. Everyone takes turn. Radhika and Dev both look very happy. Chachaji looks agitated and keeps glancing at his watch. Radhika gets more gifts, jewellery, books and Mrinalini is annoyed. Some lady in the gathering asks who will be the 5th married women to do the rasam. The other lady answers it will be their elder daughter-in-law of course. Mrinalini looks up hearing that is not happy at all. She retorts why will do godh barai. I've been sitting here for so long, and no one even remembered me, that there is an elder daughter-in-law indeed. The smile is wiped off Dadi, Vaishali, Vivek, Dev and Radhika. Mrinalini adds now that you need one more married woman, you remember me. Vaishali tries to pacify her and says we did not forget you, but you were to be along the five women chosen all along, as you are the elder Bahu. Mrinalini answers I am only in name the elder, anyways I am not interested in this godh barai, let anyone else do the task. Vivek rebukes her and says not to create a scene before everyone, if she was going to behave like this, she should not have come at all. Chachaji glances at his watches and tells Mrinalini to do as they say, even if they do not consider us as their own, we need to perform our duties towards them. Mrinalini is confused and shocked that Chachaji is taking their side. Mrinalini stands in a huff and does the custom hastily and without giving her any blessings, places some gift on Radhika's lap and leaves. Deepika asks Dadi whether we should make Radhika wear all the jewellery she just got. Dadi tells her to wait and takes out the ring. Radhika is blushing. Dadi calls Dev and tells him to put it on her Choti Bahu. Everyone looks happy. Aama is fuming silently. Chachaji keeps glancing at his watch. Dev goes to Dadi and takes the ring, kneels in front of Radhika's, stares at her and puts his hand forward. Radhika shyly put her hand on his and Dev is about to put the ring, when someone shouts stop. They all glance towards the door. A group of man have just entered and one man shouts this marriage cannot happen. Everyone is shocked. Another man enters and reiterates that this engagement cannot happen. You need to stop all these rasams.
Shastriji asks the sarpanch (head of the village) why has he stopped this ceremony. He says how can a Raj Purohit remarry when his first wife is still alive. Aama and the deadly trio are rejoicing while the others look shattered. Shastriji retorts I consider my daughter dead. Devki gets teary eyed. I have even done her last rites. One of the man from the group replies it does not matter what you believe, she is still alive, and hence this marriage will be considered as a second marriage. Another man adds a Raj Purohit does not have the right to remarry. Aama is happy while Dadi and Vaishali are speechless. Shastriji tries to explain that Vishaka has herself forsaken her home and given up on their relationship. Another man answers by simply leaving him, it does not give him the right to remarry. Vivek points out that the law has already given him this right and that Vishaka has already signed the divorce papers. The head of the village answers that in our culture, there is no meaning for divorce, it is a foreign concept. Vivek asks then does the law have no meaning in your eyes. The sarpanch retorts that the law applies to common man and not for a Raj Purohit. Dev is shocked. He says different rules have been created for the Raj Purohit, he turns towards Dadi and asks her whether he is right. He tells Shastriji that I had thought someone like you would have read the holy books and not let this happen. He pulls out a book and states that it is said that as long as the Raj Putohit's first wife is still alive, remarrying would be adharma (a sin). Chachaji says you are right sarpanchji, we must follow the rules especially those applying to the Raj Purohit. Mrinalini and Arjun are happy at the reversal of the situation. The sarpanch praises Chachaji to be wise, the only one of the family thinking rationally. He gives the book to Shastriji and tells him being the Raj Purohit's samdhan, you must be familiar with every single rule. Dadi asks Shastriji to forgive her, and says I should have known there must be some restrictions for the Raj Purohit. I did not realise these very rules would be an obstacles in front of my Dev's happiness. Dev is shocked. Please forgive me as you had bear this insult because of my ignorance. Shastriji tells her not to speak like this, it is matter of great honour to be a Raj Purohit. We had thought of this relationship to restore his honour. We will have to abide by these rules. Aama is very happy. The sarpanch says he is glad that you have understood what I wanted to say. He requests them to leave now, so they do so in turn. Radhika looks at Dev sadly while everyone starts to leave one by one. Dev leaves from there. Shastriji looks shattered. Devki is teary eyed (or constipated). Radhika looks numb. Devki takes her from there and makes her sit. Radhika starts to cry and is inconsolable.
Precap: Devki suddenly gets a conscience and says I can no longer bear her pain. I will have to tell her babuji the truth, that Radhika is indeed Dev babu's wife, the rightful Choti Bahu.
