I just read the episodes of this serial and sometimes compare the storyline and character sketch with Bidai on Starplus. The setting of both serials is in nearby cities in India - Vrindaban and Agra respectively but so much difference in the traditions and thinking of the families.
I was amazed to see that Shastri family, a brahmin family who has adopted Radhika, would eat food cooked by her but would not allow her in the temple.
I think those who believe in such system after watching this serial would feel more encouraged to continue to practice this rather than learning the pain of Radhika who feels so indebted to this family and is raedy to take any 'sh.." from them.
I would rather see her character though humble but a fighter against such system. Why can't the lead ladies be shown smart with self respect.
When I read the posts here on forums, I see that all of us audience wants more out of these women characters to whom we all can relate to rather than pitying them and nodding our heads in amazement.

how can she fight..? Be practical.... She is grateful to the family and she can't fight for any rights. What should she tell them..? 'You guys are not treating me well .... 'and things like that..? Wouldn't that be funny...? I don't mean adopted people should be treated like that but keeping the characterization of Rads in mind, how can we expect her to talk to them in that tone..?

Women in rural areas, villages, city housewives can "connect" very easily with the story of the bechari serial heroine. A special relationship develops with the bechari heroine and it helps them bear the drudgeries of everyday life. So the "bechari nari" story sells, and since women watch these shows, the same theme is repeated over and over again. (The network knows who is watching, what programme and when).

I agree simi200647 but if you are watching aap ki kachehri on starplus, you would have been again 'amazed' to see the self confidence of women belonging to the same group (as mentioned by you) saying 'no' to an abusive relationship and being ready to go head on singlehanded with the life. It just tells that we all can digest a better storyline showing sacrifices that would really have a meaning rather than 'bechari'.
