Thought about penning my reactions for the past week on Dev...one of the reasons I stopped commenting was Dev was being destroyed and I had no patience to comment on this destruction. They were giving him the same dialogues that Barkha has to forgive Radhika which was reminding me of Abhays biwi bacha slogan and I do not have the patience to deal with that again. In the past few months Dev had disappeared. I mean the complex, introvert, insecure but human Dev...one who had issues but also could overcome them had been changed to this one dimensional , inhuman Dev who although has sensed that something wrong might have happened with Radhika still throws a tantrum that he won't go to look for Radhika and nor will anyone from the family go when Radhika did not return and this Dev lost all ability to think for himself. But last week there has been some improvement, it's not perfect and much more work needs to be done but some progress has been there...but first I have to acknowledge Avinash for trying to put Dev insecurities and issues to the audiences even when no dialogues were given to him...trying to use voice modulation in the most atrocious of dialogues to again show his complex nature. So to me it has again been Avinash and his excellent skills in projecting his emotions through expressions, voice modulation and body language that has made the difference. So today my post is just about Dev and excellent portrayal by Avinash.

When Dev threw the ultimatum at Radhika/kanha that she cannot keep the fast for him for karvachauth...Avinash's voice modulation showed that it is another temper tantrum of Dev (Radhika is the only one to who he will show these tantrums) ...and he was reacting like a spoiled brat because Radhika was not playing according to his rules...and he also knows that Radhika believes in all vrats and rituals and this would affect her the most...and then like a spoiled brat he also storms off...then in his room when Barkha comes and starts complaining about Radhika ...he does not say anything but again his expressions showed that Dev was not liking whatever Barkha was saying about Radhika ...and then when Balram comes and tells Dev that Radhika is still fasting for him...the tone of Avinash's voice showed that he was exasperated with Radhika ...not because of anger but the tone was similar to one that people use when they think that someone whom they love is not listening to them but doing stuff in their own way...that exasperation had tinge of love in it which was completed by him telling Kanha that what do I do with this follower of yours? Again the same tone that one might use complaining about one loved one to God.

Then later on listening to Radhika /kanha's arguments Dev realizes that nowhere has it been mentioned that Radhika as his wife cannot keep the fast... Radhika /kanha cleverly uses words to apologise to Barkha for Radhika not recognizing her true face (he did not apologize for anything else) and Dev is happy that since Radhika has apologized then that means everything is ok...Barkha will forgive and everything will fall into their right place...but Barkha marches off...Later on during his interaction with Radhika /kanha in the lounge just before the Gita talk showed that Dev knows that he has done wrong in stopping the fast of Radhika but he does not want to acknowledge it openly and he also did not want others to see that he is talking to Radhika ...so with a very guilty look he tried to ask indirectly using muth as the excuse...(excellent work by Avinash here)...and gets told of gently by Radhika/kanha that it is his responsibility to judge and she cannot help in this matter and that he has to forget about the result and just do his duty.

Then happily lost in his own world goes to his room remembering that he does not have to chose one over the other...I mean Rajpurohiti over Radhika or Radhika over Rajpurohiti (well he always wanted to do both together and now he thinks that he can ...because he has been told that one dharma cannot take precedence over the other but he still has not realized that to do his duty the right way either as a husband or as an RP he might have to loose one for some time...Radhika/kanha has told him that he has to judge as a RP..wonder when will this fact sink in) and he hits a wall 😉..I mean Barkha...who is now in full nautanki mood to prove her love for Dev...I found his reactions and expressions to Barkha very funny when Barkha was declaring her undying love for Dev...he was looking as if an insect has crawled out from under a stone...and I felt that he might tell her "Barkha suno yeh sabh sansarik bate tumhe shobha nahi deti...tum ek Rajpurohitain ho our tumhe hamesha samaja kalayan ke bare main hi sochna aur bolna chaheeye"...😉..anyway he had a nice frown and was looking uncomfortable as Barkha was continuing on her ILU talk (she did not say it directly but the hints were pretty clear)...when suddenly Dev remembers Radhika and her kartavya pravachan from Gita...gladly and with relief passes it to Barkha with a very serious face and then runs to his room...this scene reminded me of his first few interaction with Barkha..whenever Radhika used to leave him alone with Barkha he used to look at Radhika to save him...he did not know what to do or what to say and used to make faces at Radhika ...anyway Dev's introvert nature nicely brought out here (I must say Avinash has perfected the art of saving Dev's modesty from females who are jumping on him😉).

Then later on the deeya scene where Radhika /kanah again takes him gently on his path of self discovery by using the lamp burning in adverse situation as a metaphor to make a point between faith/self belief and doubts...belief that comes from inside ...from something in us that helps one to overcome doubts that the mind has given rise to...doubts because one believes that others are much better at deciding/ or make decisions...usually people who are confident and have a strong belief system...they do not have that much doubts in their mind and they tend to follow what they believe in...'and also have the gumption to face the consequences of that action. Radhika is like that...her upbringing by Mansaram had given her enough self confidence to follow what she thinks is right and she is also ready to face the consequence (Radhika/kanha alluded to that)...she had doubts about Barkha when Maheswari showed her what is the truth but once she realized the truth she stuck to it...but Dev...he has always been insecure...he does not have the strong self belief (a person who has been brought up as he has been will be insecure)..and hence doubts usually take the upper hand. Then on Friday he again got miffed that Barkha is now not forgiving Radhika and then today all his pent up frustrations came out...that Barkha was not there when she was needed as RPtian...that she is continuing to question Radhika and the most interesting part that Barkha has brought outsiders and then ridiculed the family in front of them...the last one shows that he still wanting to preserve the family honour...that to me also shows that him shouting at Barkha to not spoil Radhika's name is not because he has realized his mistake in not trusting Radhika but because he thinks Radhika has said sorry so that means the matter ends and Barka is uselessly dragging the issue...he also might think that Barkha is jealous and hence all these nautankis she is doing...but still no self realization. I actually do not expect him to realize so quickly...'..but this realization part does bring me to the part of Dev's characterization that is not making sense to me...that Dev has been made into this person who has lost the ability to think...he was nodding at Barkha, then nodding at Padma...then saying yes to Radhika /kanha (on Friday regarding distributing stuff to the needy)...then again nodding to Padma today followed by nodding to dai. However insecure Dev has been projected before he always had the capability to think on his own... that has been lost now and no attempt has been made to show him thinking on his own. If Radhika/kanha's role is to take Dev is a path of self discovery then he has to be shown thinking on his own...that is an important part of this process... it should be a gradual process but the thought process has to be shown..so hopefully there are plans to show that in Dev. Talking of self discovery I liked how the makers showed it during Rohan track using alter ego for Dev...Anyway there were also some other parts that I wish things have been done differently...last week they showed Padma saying that it was she who convincd Dev that Barkha should keep the fast...here I wish they had shown a scene where Dev would have initially protested saying that Barkha is not his wife but grudgingly said yes to Padma but not been happy about it (again for audience to get Dev's emotions)...then today did not like him accepting Pandma's demands regarding pooja that Barkha has to be there...what dai said later on I would have prefered Dev saying that...and then dai could have supported him...Also did not like the loving looks of Dev towards Radhika/kanha...because to me it again showed that Dev is not thinking what Radhika/kanha has alluded to and he still tinks that everything is fine and dandy in his world.

Today there was something else I found interesting...don't know whether it will come to any use later on but I found it interesting that Rohan has started accompanying Dev regarding Muth work and it was also Rohan who held Barkha when she fainted.

mistio it was a big relief to see ur thoughts atleast abt dev after a long time, each and every sentence u told was very needed, i tried to explain upto todays part but i know if ever i said anythign rudely or wrongly then definitely there may be any negative vibe so with drew my self from doing so. coming to dev's characterisation

i still wonder that dev was still behaving as a servant in the pb always nodding to all others, instead of being rp. indeed when dev was as a servant his charcter was nice. But the dev's character was well ruined by ole director and script writer, and hence i thin the new diretor was trying to bring up dev's charcter step by step for the audience to digest. and i wish it will be shown,by kanha

and yeah i noticed the same which u noticed to regarding rohan, wondering is it any future indication

Misti,

Excellent analysis on Dev. My problems with the show are many, but the main one is with how they are portraying Dev. Dev of CB1 and CB2 are totally different. Even though Dev of CB1 was my favorite, I like Dev of CB2 too because he is so complex. But in last three months, they slowly made him one-dimensional.

He was still kept independent, but they made him puppet from the time he picked up Barkha as RPtain.

I like Avinash's portrayal of Dev for all the reasons you mentioned in your comments. The dialogues given to him are really bad and I include today in that too. But his expressions, body language and voice modulation are making it possible to see a more complex, insecure introvert and flawed Dev.

I will comment in details perhaps later on depending on how much time I have. But for now, my problem today was again how many bad scenes he was given. There is an improvement in his portrayal in last 2-3 episodes, but overall he is still given an extremely raw deal. That is incomprehensible to me. I can understand that his self-realization would take time, but was Dev ever the puppet? Not even when he was under tremendous obligations.

His first scene was the first example. Last week he waited with donations because Padma said so. However misguided he ever has been, his humanity always comes through. Why would he wait for RPtain because Padma said so. Today it was the same. He went to Padma to ask for Barkha and then asked her what to do. Then when Dai told her to do the puja with Radhika, he did so. There was no independent thought. Whatever Dev's feelings, he is always clear that Radhika is his wife. Since there are no outsiders and also he has realized that he was wrong in keeping Radhika from performing pujas and vrats, he would not wait for Dai to tell him that he should do puja with Radhika. He would do it automatically. This type of scenes are the reasons I am not participating in the forum. They are doing so much injustice to the character of Dev.

I had problems with Dev's lines with Barkha too for the same reason. It was again somewhat a puppet act for me when he is not shown using any reasoning. The CVs are doing it because they want to show payback for Barkha. That thehe same Dev who shouted at Radhika is now shouting at Barkha and using the same lines that he once used on Barkha. Show the payback but combine it with Dev's evolution. That is still not being done. Right now his lines are that of puppet where he is shown either listening to Barkha, Dai, Padma or Radhika/Kanha. There is no independence in his thoughts whatsoever. Dev was never dumb, weak or indecisive. But his lines are written in such a way that they are portraying him this way. Avinash's portrayal of Dev is the only saving grace. Otherwise, it pains me to see how much they have destroyed Dev.

But saying all that, I still like your analysis because I liked that scene where he was uncomfortable with Barkha or is in his happy world that he can do both his duties simulataneously without any conflict. I too liked that scene where he threw a tantrum at Radhika. His expressions and dialogue delivery made it clear that his forbidding Radhika from doing vrat was a childish way of manipulating Radhika. Radhika/Kanha obviously did not fall for it and was indulging him like a parent indulges a child. Radhika/Kanha also lectured him the same way and there was some realization on Dev's part after that. I too liked how he used Muth as an excuse with Radhika and Radhika/Kanha's knowing smile.

Rubina is of course getting scope to perform and she is doing a fabulous job. But I am more impressed with Avinash because he is getting lousy material and very little screen space. But he is using that to convey this complex Dev that is now lost because of creatives pen. So very good performance on his part.

Besides Dev, I found Rohan interesting too just like you. There were three shots which were interesting. The first one was the beginning when Dai said that Radhika was Dev's wife. Padma obviously didn't like it but camera then went to Rohan's face who kept a neutral expression but didn't want Radhika to do puja as Dev's wife.

Then he also looked speculative when Barkha said that Radhika has changed since coming back and this one is not Radhika. So is he also suspecting that real Radhika may be somewhere else because he is a better judge than Dev. Then his staying with Dev at Muth was also interesting. So is Dev grooming him to be RP (they are not mentioning that at all) and it seems that Rohan wants to be RP. Finally his catching Barkha despite her accusations. Why did he go to her? He can obviously expose Barkha but is not doing so. So has he made some guesses and keeping his cards close?

Finally, today's episode was incomplete as far as Dev is concerned. To me there was no growth in Dev today even though there was some last week. Today he was nodding like a puppet to Padma and then to Dai. In the end, there was no outrage on behalf of Radhika. Rather it was an outrage that Barkha brought outsiders that would damage family's image. So waiting for tomorrow to see if they show some introspection. So far he has not thought about his own behavior towards Radhika on how her rights were taken away from her and she is leading this anonymous life. Or how he behaved with her when he raised his hand or accused her of trying to murder a friend. That's why his romantic glances were so incongruous today. Forget that he is doing this towards Radhika/Kanha, but he is doing towards a girl whom he loves but whom he still believes capable of committing a murder because of some insecurity.

Rather than showing such scenes, it would be better if they show a long-due monologue of Dev where he is shown to have doubts about his reactions a month ago. Where he starts wondering whether he misjudged Radhika and did injustice to her. So far there is nothing. All they want to do is stretch this track where the fight is like a cat-fight between Radhika/Kanha and Barkha.

Welcome back Misti and Angie 🥳 so happy to see your posts, really missed you both very much.

I agree with you both that in order for other characters to come through Dev has been sacrificed. Even after Radhika/Kahna pointing things to him, he has not been shown to connect the dots as to why he thinks Radhika behaved in that way when he knows in his heart that she is not that kind of a person.
I really hated that Dev needed Dai to point out that this is a house puja and therefore it is Radhika's right as Dev's wife to do it.
I also felt that although Dev shouted at Barkha but still listen to Bharka more patiently then Radhika.
I loved one dialogue given today to Dev - 'I thought that Radhika had issues with you before but it looks like the truth is something else'. Is this slowly showing us that Dev's thinking process is coming back or is this just a fluke line to appease the audience.
As for the cute scene in the beginning, I liked that, even though it was to appease the audience and in the present scenario it is not appropriate but hell I have missed a naughty, mischievous Avinash look so much that I fell hook, line and sinker for that scene. No apologies for liking the scene.
I also found Rohan catching Barkha falling and going to the Mutt interesting.
I too applaud Avinash for his brilliant acting and voice modulation in portraying his firm stand yet his feelings for Radhika.

When i saw devs attitude today i really thought abt ur clever comments misti 😉 True, dev lived in a enviroment where he became closed up inside and when he met radhika he could open up,she is the one who makes him come out of his shell because she thaught him how to love...in that crazy he was thaught only responsibily and duties an d not love...All his reactions these episode are true to his nature, nonconfident and insecure smtimes ,correct and just other times...Infact,all this time he didnt care abt bh,he cared abt his believes and wrong imagine that bh created on radhika...he always try to reason her actions ,too bad he didnt look in his heart, the answer was there :radhika wasnt like bh said!Today,i saw a spark of old dev,confident...kanha really did a great job ,created the rite circumstance to show how bh is not what she wants everyone to belive she is...For me all the changes in dev were caused by bh's brainwash using his faults, now with a stronger version of radh the gem that dev really is will come out! 😊

That is the problem I have with their screenplay...why does Dev have to be destroyed for some other character to shine...they destroyed Dev to glorify Barkha and now hey are again harming his characterisation in this tit for tat punishment for Barkha.
I really hated that Dev needed Dai to point out that this is a house puja and therefore it is Radhika's right as Dev's wife to do it.Yes I hated that too...Dev was always clear in his mind that Radhika is his wife...and now Radhika/kanha has already explained to him that Radhika has the rights of the wife and no where in the rule book has it been written that the wife should not get her rights...so why does dai need to tell Dev again to let Radhika do the pooja...that again shoed that Dev canno think and he is nodding to others..
I also felt that although Dev shouted at Barkha but still listen to Bharka more patiently then wards Radhika.Well this part could have been the taking for granted action of Dev towards Radhika..which he does not regarding Barkha and also that he might have now learned to take all this in calmly to make a judgement...but have to see more on this.
I loved one dialogue given today to Dev - 'I thought that Radhika had issues with you before but it looks like the truth is something else'. Is this slowly showing us that Dev's thinking process is coming back or is this just a fluke line to appease the audience.Well it can be either ...thats why I did not point it out because I want to see whether it is a fluke or not...

I also found Rohan catching Barkha falling and going to the Mutt interesting.,,I have been expecting this chap to come out of the woodwork for some time now...they have been giving hints for sometime now and have been slowly inserting his scenes with Barkha...
I too applaud Avinash for his brilliant acting and voice modulatio in portraying his firm stand yet his feelings for Radhika.Yes here.

They could have shown a nice scene between Radhika and Dev but in another way. First of all, as Misti mentioned they should have shown Dev telling Padma that Radhika would do puja with Dai supporting him at Padma's protest.

Then if they wanted to show a scene between Dev and Radhika, they could have shown it as a flashback. They could have shown that Dev was reflecting whether he had misjudged Radhika. But still having a fight between his faith in Radhika and his own guilt feelings. Then they could have shown him feeling nostalgic about his old relationship with Radhika when it was just two of them against the world. They could have shown either some scene (not shown previously) between Dev and Radhika at the cottage or when Radhika was still living with Dev before their misunderstanding. Dev could have been shown wanting to get back that innocent era when he believed in Radhika wholeheartedly and they had this beautiful relationship.

That way, the whole scene of Dev with Radhika/Kanha could have been avoided and also it would not have made Dev look shallow who could think romantically about Radhika despite having strong feelings about her guilt. The audience would have gotten their solo sweet scene between dev and Radhika and it would have been a realistic scene too because people always think of past when things were wonderful.

Instead they showed this ridiculous scene which did not go with Dev's characterization and also ended up being weird because it was Radhika/Kanha on one side. Also it diluted Dev's spiritual love because he has to feel that this Radhika is different from his original Radhika.
