Myra, even if Barkha's scene is taken out, Dev's attitude was very selfish. Radhika had just gone to the temple the day before (11 kms on foot) to pray for his happiness. Then he finds out in the morning that she is upset over something. But she is not sharing with him. So I can understand his frustration. But then his behavior in the kitchen was obnoxious. He told her that she should not spoil things just because she is either upset or mad at him. Doesn't he know Radhika very well by now? Assuming he said that in anger (as he later on told her), he didn't go and apologize to her or advise her to fix something. So what if Brahmins are angry? Can't they feed him fruits or puris or something else?
But once he found that she fixed the food, he relaxed and then told her that he was thankful to her. But again blamed her because she wasn't sharing anything. Since Dev has always been shown to be short-tempered and impatient, I can understand him getting angry at her.
But his reaction showed that he gets angry with her if she does anything that can spoil family prestige and would thank her if she saves family prestige. What kind of spiritual love is this? This is to me stark selfishness. Leaving aside Barkha's motives, he was looking amazed that RAdhika would feel resentful that she is not getting any rights. Shouldn't he feel guilty that he is not able to give her any rights. All she does is work for him and his family to maintain their image and can not even have an off day without him jumping all over her.
HIs apology would have made more sense if he had said that even if the food was spoiled, he knew that she wouldn't do something this so deliberately. She must be really upset for the food to get spoilt. He was wrong to blame her for that. Even if the food was spoilt, it was no big deal. That she was doing all the work singlehandedly and he didn't even appreciate that.
So to me that smacked of selfish behavior and I was agreeing with that Brahmin when he said that Dev was acting like his Dada. He did today. All I wanted was for Radhika to leave this house and go somewhere and let Dev have his RP title with Barkha at his side. Let Barkha do all the work.
Barkha said that Radhika considers herself his wife. But RAdhika is his wife. Dev didn't contradict on her words. So they are making Dev both selfish and dumb in order to make Barkha artificially powerful.
