It really boggles the mind, doesn't it? That a father would want his daughter to get married to a man who is already married. Is this what 'traditional' for UB and Thakkar means? (I won't generalize and say India, because since joining the IF I know it might be true for the most part, but not wholly!) Treat the woman as a commodity. Sell to the highest bidder. Disgusting! It's like a brothel!!!

And what about the daughter, herself? It could, of course, be that neither is aware that Manav is married. Or that Thakkar knows (in which case, this makes him a pimp of his daughter!!!) and his daughter does not.

But what of UB herself. She's always postulating on righteousness. Yet, all her actions, her words, her entire life is lived with deception. To do this with her own son, does she really think Manav will marry another woman? (Well, she did make a pact with herself that he will kick Chhan Chhan out himself.) Does she at all, care about her son and his happiness? It seems she's more worried about stroking her ego! And what about the fact that she is doing this to another woman. To other two women!

Now, I don't for one moment, purport to understand the traditions that are steeped too deep in the culture. It really is foreign to me, as I am from a different culture. But different culture or not, the dignity of a woman (or man) is sacred and for a parent to treat their off spring in any other manner is truly abhorring!

What do you think? Is Thakkar justified in doing what he is? That is selling his daughter to UB? After all, he did meet UB's demands - much like deal. Remember, he was at the wedding. And UB did mention that the fourth full moon, she will break Thakkar's daughter's fast at her own house. And Manav will kick his wife out of the house himself. UB said all this to Thakkar. So for all intents and purposes, he knows. That Manav is married. Plus, he does not live under a cave, and society knows Manav is married, so he must know, too.

Curious to know how others feel about this.

Only the Father knows about Manav being a married Manav not the daughter or maybe she's someone who really likes Manav and wants him at any cost either one!

I guess the father tried hard to keep his daughter away from external factors so she doesn't know about the wedding but yeah...to me it seems this man is just scared of UB so he'll do whatever she asks of him. But because this show isn't a heavily drama centered show, I can't hold a grudge against someone for too long. Chhanchhan has been doing considerably well in her new home and I think in the end, it'll be UB leaving the house. LMAO. Imagine THAT happening! hehe.

Haha! That would be something. But I don't think UB will ever leave. If anyone leaves, it might be Chhan Chhan and Manav.

I don't understand. Why would Thakkar be afraid of UB?

Yes, Chhan Chhan, although facing a lot of difficulties is adjusting well, at her in-laws. Is she comfortable enough to call it her own home? I don't think so. I don't think she feels quite at home, yet. It's not her home, yet. UB is making sure Chhan Chhan knows that. Very subtly.

I wonder what Manav's reaction will be when he finds out (probably eons from now) that UB was making a deal with Thakkar about him, when he was already married!

I had this conversation with a friend and her mother at the time of the wedding, becasue I too am baffled by this behaviour.

It is about getting a girl married into a rich family and "buying" the social prestige and "financial" security. Just the fact that a rich family like the Borisagar's want one's daughter as a DIL is enough.

Women like UB exist and father's like Thakker exist. He knows UB wants his daughter to marry her son Manav at whose wedding he gave the money to UB. You can't even say he is "selling" his daughter because he is not getting "paid". He gets to say "Look, my daughter is married to a Borisagar".

This stuff happens in rich, wordly, educated families. Marriage "deals" are made between families for "wealth" reasons. It is more of a "social" issue rather than a "culture" issue.

Women like UB don't care about what they are doing to other women.

Being in India Forums have you not noticed the "bias" against Sanaya. I am disgusted by a lot of comments and posts made about Sanaya...by women. If women/girls can write such stuff what kind of a person are they in real life?

Agree about the forum...the prejudices that exist against another woman and leeway given to men is astonishing.

UB is thinking of CC's social humiliation when the marriage breaks, her son can marry again and move on with least amount of social repercussions. UB will take her revenge and get the kind of bahu she wants for Manav.

People like UB do exist and so do mothers like her who place their ego, social standing and family status above their children's happiness. They feel they know the best and respect means others towing their line.

The reason for Thakhar bhai and his daughter's willingness to marry a much married Manav we will know in coming episodes. However, it could be as simple as getting the Borisagar family name which garners status in their community. In a hierarchical and status conscious society these things do happen.

Though TM is right about the unmoralistic aspect of what UB is doing, but there are many in the world who bend social norms and cultural traditions to meet their own selfish ends. They sit on judgement on others and use traditions and social practices to gain power and control over others. These traditions become their tools of control.

Open a newspaper any day and one will find some such incident or other.

Huh? As everyone knows financial security and social prestige don't mean happiness for the women. Aren't these families the least concerned about their daughter's happiness? But isn't the payment the so called security of as you say, social prestige. And financial security - if the women are bartered like this, there is no respect (or self respect, if the women agree to this themselves) then how can anyone in the in-laws family treat them with respect? Then how are they treated within this new family environment? Are the fathers OK with this? So would they get the "financial security?" What does that mean anyway? That they get $ to spend? They can go to work for that. That they will be secured in the future? Still, they can go to work. Besides, money - here today, gone tomorrow!

UB is a supposed to be wise woman. She has lived life and has the experiences. Most women/girls at IF are living in LaLa Land. (Remember how 'romantic' many felt domestic violence is, or how romantic it was to be homeless?? From her previous show... That's because they are immature and clueless to the reality of the world.)

I suspect, many of the disgusting comments are made by these types of girls. But let's suppose they are made by those who are mature, then yeah, I wonder why? Instead of collectively, making women progress, they are repressing themselves in the process, by making such kinds of comments. Perhaps, they are really clueless? Then that's a sad day for women.

Interesting topic couldn't agree with you more UB must be out of her mind if she actually thinks this is traditional! Like Manav would agree to something like that he can't survive even one day without CC. She really doesn't care about her son's happiness she's really one messed up woman yuck.

If this girl actually knows Manav is married that would be just ew her expressions today when she heard Manav's name 🤢 She does really like him and wants to married him but it didn't work out I fell she does know Manav is a married man and would do anything to get him. 🤢 She might actually be successful in separating ChanMan who knows? something dramatic is coming up soon.
