Ohh wow we are already on 13th page of the new thread 😲 Congratulations everyone 🥳

The sad songs theme!! Love all those Lata songs, songs from Kagaz ke Phool and Baiju Bawra. Such classics.

And Din Dhal jaye is my absolute favorite ❤️ If I were to choose one song of Rafi (which is a very difficult task in its own), I would go for Din Dhal jaye!

Me being late lateef still stuck on the sad songs theme, so posting this Lata Rafi duet from film Parasmani.

Wo Jab yaad aaye

Music Laxmikant Pyarelaal

I don't know if anyone else will agree with me but I feel Mukesh had a naturally melancholic voice. Something like - 'Awaaz Mein Bohot Dard Tha...'

Anyone with me on this? Did it make 0.2% sense?🤡

What a melody ❤️ Such meaningful lyrics and how beautifully Lata has sung it. It's from late 50s but Lata's voice sounds very thin like how it was in initial days of her career. Thanks for posting this! Had somehow gone off the radar of my playlist for really really long.

The other day Madhu & I were discussing Raag Yaman Kalyan and K.L Saigal's exquisite rendition of Main kya janoon kya jadoo hai... which led me down the rabbit hole of Yaman Kalyan songs (Goodness there are sooo many!) and I came across this one. Now I'm told by experts that this isn't pure Yaman Kalyan and has a fair mix of Tilang in it & I see how. It has that gambheerta to it which is absent in pure Yaman Kalyan which is usually full of joy & serenity (fair exception being 'Aansoo bhari hai')

Nevertheless, its a beautiful song and fits our current sad songs theme.

Song: Tum bin jeevan kaise beeta

Film: Anita (1969)

Music: Laxmikant Pyarelal

Lyrics: Raja Mehdi Ali Khan

Singer: Mukesh

Another Yaman Kalyan sad song. Surprising there are so many of them for such a lilting raag! This one has two versions: one in Mukesh's voice and the other in Rafi's (this is a happier, romantic version).

Song: Saranga teri yaad mein

Film: Saranga (1961)

Music: Sardar Mallik

Lyrics: Bharat Vyas

Singers: Mukesh & Rafi

Happy Valentine's Day to all my Sadabahar friends! 🤗

Hope you're all spending it with your loved ones and telling them how much you love them with words or actions! 😳

I want to take this opportunity to say how much I love being here and all of you & your contributions to this thread! 🤗 Just chatting and getting to know you all has been an enriching experience for me! ❤️

Today is the day for sharing love - giving, receiving and feeling it in all its glory.

It's also kinda a perfect occasion to share some romantic songs on this thread, because lbr, this era had some of the most intensely romantic tunes and lyrics ever!

Today is also the Queen Madhubala's birthday!

Commemorating both occasions, here's the first of my romance tributes:

Song: Chand sa mukhda kyon sharmaaya

Film: Insaan Jaag utha (1957)

Music: S.D. Burman

Lyrics: Shailendra

Singers: Rafi & Asha
