Aww man, I don't deny it's good as a standalone. I read the book as an impressionable teenager and in the end Flanagan put his own spin on his version. That's my only quibble. The feeling the book leaves me with and the one the series leaves me with are very different. But it's a good show! I hope Snow watches it as a standalone so you can see what she thought of it.

(I'll tell you that I have a lot more respect for someone who stands with passion and logic for something I disagree with than someone who is wishy-washy about something I agree with - I'm super impressed with your investment in this show!)

Shirley Jackson was an interesting lady, I read a biography of hers a few years ago.
Have you read any of her short fiction (Lottery, The Strangers) or We have always lived in the castle?
She was this meek academic wife yet she produced some really chilling and eerie fiction.

We had to read Lottery in our high school literature class and boy, was it a chiller!
