Posting some of Kishore da's songs on account of his birth anniversary yesterday.

SD Burman, Dev Anand and Kishore together gave some great songs that were visual treat as well along with being musical melodies. Dev and Nutan make this one so endearing.

O nigahein mastana - omg I love this song so much! Dev and Nutan are lovely together and I love the humming that Asha does. Something so magically Romantic about this tune!
And of course Main sitaron ka tarana is one of my all-time favourites! I love all the namoona songs KK does 🤣and Madhubala’s expressions are just amazing!

Plus ye raatein ye mausam! Wow!

I know Kishoreda is more applauded and remembered for his later tracks sung for RDB and Rajesh Khanna but I love his 50s and 60s songs. He only sang playback for Dev Anand in this days, and also for himself of course! He had this madcap irreverential way of singing that no one can emulate!

Kishore da is my all time most favorite singer. Like I said about Rafi sahab, Legends like Kishore da are timeless.Their work speaks for itself.

The following song, I will never get tired of speaking about it. The legend has it that the female voice was supposed to be done by Asha or someone else but apparently they got stuck and couldn’t make it in time for the recording. Kishore da ended up singing for both the male as well as female voices and notice how his male voice matches that of Pran. All in one single take! ❤️

This movie was absolutely madcap! 🤣

I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I enjoyed it!
And I love Kishoreda's little song improvs all through the movie.

So many scenes from this movie are copied later - like the Jai and Mausi scene from Sholay is inspired from this and also the dining scene where he literally messes up everyone's dinner which was copied in Namak Halal. More than as a singer, I adore him as a comedian, his movies never fail to make me laugh!
And yes, Lata was supposed to record "Aake seedhi lagi" and she was held up in traffic so Kishoreda convinced Salilda to let him do both versions!

He does a little improv on his big bro's 'Main ban ka pancchi". I think he was just trying to be irreverent towards Ashok Kumar. AK thought KK would never make it as a singer since he was untrained, and tried to push him towards acting instead. But KK was never too much into acting and he decided he'd get back at bade bhaiyya by being the most OTT actor ever! And I'm sooo glad he did, or we'd have missed all these gems!! 🤣

Kishoreda never was interested in a film career. He was more interested in singing but his elder brother forced him into the filmi line that too as an actor because those days the singers made very less money and also Rafi sahab was already becoming popular by then and Ashokda felt that his brother won’t be able to get many offers as a singer. Kishoreda was so disinterested that he tried his best to get into the bad books of the producers so that they will throw him out of the sets.😆 He used to act all crazy and bad but that became a hit with the audience. In a stream of all prim and proper heros Kishoreda’s brand of acting came as a welcome relief to the audience and they lapped him up. And to his dismay and his brother’s delight, the offers for acting kept pouring in. Long story short, though he eventually found a way to somehow balance between singing and acting his heart was only in singing. He regularly used to come late to the shoots and sometimes even bunk them for days.😳😆

Who can forget his comic timing in CKNG and later in Padosan? 🤣

I always say that this song has more comedy than all the so called comedy movies like Housefull etc put together. It makes me laugh my head out every. single. time I watch it and I have watched it MANY times. I am sure you’ll have already guess the song. 😆

Ek chatur naar gets my goat mainly because of Mehmood and his stereotypical South Indian mannerisms. But Kishoreda is great in it! And so is Mannada! The story is that Mannada, who is considered the badshah of classical playback singing was reluctant to 'lose' to KK in this song. He refused to do the 'ghoda-chatur, ek pe raho' bit. You can hear that in Mehmood's voice. It took RDB to convince Mannada to play to his strengths which was classical! But KK made it look like nonsensical singing with his 'kadke botan cheerbi chakar' 'keenchke suranomano muchkar' 🤣Utter nonsense! And only KK could carry it off!

I thought both Sunil Dutt and Saira Banu were the surprise package in this - keeping the balance with all the madcap stuff happening.

This movie was pretty OTT too thanks to Mehmood's overacting mainly, Kishoreda's natak company with his Bangdu's being the best part of it for me!! 😆

Did you guys know 'Ek Chatur Naar' was also one of Dada Moni's songs? 😆

KK gets a Lion’s share in the success of many superstars like Rajesh Khanna, Amitabh Bachchan etc.
