Popularity is understandable also can understand audience mentality too when it comes into entertainment because everybody's taste is different. There are people who genuinely like Dhinjak Puja videos. But when it comes to acting, it's global, doesn't matter the medium or region. The majority of the fans of TV popular actors think that their idol is the epitome of good look or acting. It's really hard to break that fan bubble, especially when they are stuck with one actor. If only they watch performances of Regional/Bollywood/International actors who are known for their acting, not for box-office/popular movies or shows.

About IPK. There were lazy narration and execution, but so many things worked together for IPK especially in the beginning, not just actors or the makers and it's a love story. That's why star still uses it as a launch pad for releasing Indian TV shows internationally. "24" is known for better execution in recent times on TV (The reason I wanted to watch it) and it is a finite episode thriller series with seasons.

When it comes to the web I think "Sacred games" put a high bar for Indian web series. I am forever pissed off with HOTSTAR for not using their platform for Original content. It has 11th position in most visited sites in India and has 75 million subscribers (More than combined sub of Voot, Amazon and Netflix). Also, marketing, look at the way "Sacred games" marketed then "Tanhaiyan". Hope Disney acquisition make some difference.

KZK2 is terrible... i was wrong... its too out dated. the whole Kolkata setting looks so 90s and I am bored within 3 episodes...I want a smart heroine. And I have to agree, that Hotstar was one big channel, and it could have done so much more, but it just failed and how.
