VyasaBharat states differently. Karna yearned to be a Kshatriya. He always wanted righteous war. Not manipulation.
He may not come close to the Pandavas on Dharma, what with Krishna on their side, but he had a very high moral compass, which did slip up when his emotions overcame him. As for Suyodhana, he was misled and encouraged to abuse power from when he was born. Where was Gandhari when she could have told him otherwise? She came to the Dyut Sabha to plead with Panchali to not curse Hastinapura, but where was she when her sons were being fed with poisonous thoughts? It was bad parenting that led Suyodhana astray. The fantastic upbringing Kunti gave the Pandavas served as their way in life as well.

Vyasa's Mahabharat states that Karna was Duryodhan's childhood friend. He was a sishya of Drona along with the Kuru princes. The only thing he was denied was the Brahmastra knowledge, that too because Drona deemed his temper unsuitable to learn it, not because he wasn't a kshatriya, but Karna did not understand and always considered himself a victim of fate when he wasn't.

Here is the mention of Karna in childhood.

"Some time after, Duryodhana again mixed in the food of Bhima a poison that was fresh, virulent, and very deadly. But Yuyutsu (Dhritarashtra's son by a Vaisya wife), moved by his friendship for the Pandavas, informed them of this. Vrikodara, however, swallowed it without any hesitation, and digested it completely. And, though virulent the poison produced no effects on Bhima.

"When that terrible poison intended for the destruction of Bhima failed of its effect, Duryodhana. Karna and Sakuni, without giving up their wicked design had recourse to numerous other contrivances for accomplishing the death of the Pandavas. And though every one of these contrivances was fully known to the Pandavas, yet in accordance with the advice of Vidura they suppressed their indignation.

"Vaisampayana said, 'Thus worshipped by Bhishma, Drona, that first of men, endued with great energy, took up his quarters in the abode of the Kurus and continued to live there, receiving their adorations. After he had rested a while, Bhishma, taking with him his grandsons, the Kaurava princes, gave them unto him as pupils, making at the same time many valuable presents. And the mighty one (Bhishma) also joyfully gave unto the son of Bharadwaja a house that was tidy and neat and well-filled with paddy and every kind of wealth. And that first of archers, Drona, thereupon joyfully, accepted the Kauravas, viz., the sons of Pandu and Dhritarashtra, as his pupils. And having accepted them all as his pupils, one day Drona called them apart and making them touch his feet, said to them with a swelling heart, 'I have in my heart a particular purpose. Promise me truly, ye sinless ones, that when ye have become skilled in arms, ye will accomplish it.'

"Vaisampayana continued, 'Hearing these words, the Kuru princes remained silent. But Arjuna, O king, vowed to accomplish it whatever it was. Drona then cheerfully clasped Arjuna to his bosom and took the scent of his head repeatedly, shedding tears of joy all the while. Then Drona endued with great prowess taught the sons of Pandu (the use of) many weapons both celestial and human. And, O bull of the Bharata race, many other princes also flocked to that best of Brahmanas for instruction in arms. The Vrishnis and the Andhakas, and princes from various lands, and the (adopted) son of Radha of the Suta caste, (Karna), all became pupils of Drona. But of them all, the Suta child Karna, from jealousy, frequently defied Arjuna, and supported by Duryodhana, used to disregard the Pandavas. Arjuna, however, from devotion to the science of arms, always stayed by the side of his preceptor, and in skill, strength of arms, and perseverance, excelled all (his class-fellows). Indeed, although the instruction the preceptor gave, was the same in the case of all, yet in lightness and skill Arjuna became the foremost of all his fellow-pupils. And Drona was convinced that none of his pupils would (at any time) be able to be equal to that son of Indra.

As for Duryodhan, I certainly agree that Gandhari and Dhritarastra are at fault for the bad parenting they gave to their children, but they are not responsible for every one of Duryodhan's actions. According to our shastras, parents are resposible for their child's karma only until the age of 12. After that, a child is responsible for their own karma and thus, Duryodhan's actions are his own, regardless of the parenting.

Even Duryodhan had a moral compass. He knew his actions were wrong, he just did not care because in his opinion, power was greater than dharma. As for Karna, i know that he had a moral compass, and he did prefer direct warfare as an adult, but in the end of the day, he still supported Duryodhan in his wicked deeds, and thus he too had a part in the crimes.

KMG says one thing, BORI something else.
Agree to disagree Janu. I can never call Karna or Suyodhana criminals persay.
Drona is said to have rejected Karna. That is why he went to learn from Parashurama. Or else, Karna's life story completely changes as does Mahabharata itself. This citation doesn;t make sense to me.

I agree with Sru, and the mistranslations are one common things, so I don't get sense of these citations either.

I also don't believe in Sahasrakavacha/Dambhodhdava 😆 So yeah, agree to disagree.

P.S: The Viraat roop siggie looks magnificent! ❤️

Where does it say Drona rejected Karna? He actually accepted many people in his Gurukul, not just the Kuru princes.

Karna only went to Parashurama to learn the Brahmastra, not to learn everything else. He was educated by Drona along with the Kuru princes, but Drona refused to teach him the Brahmastra and thus, Karna went to Parashurama to learn that. This doesn't really change anything to me storywise, but yeah agree to disagree.

Karna may not have been an outright criminal, but Duryodhana certainly was. His crimes are numerous. If we encountered someone like him in real life, we'd call him a criminal and thus, he's no different to me. As for Karna, only the fact that he realized his crimes in the end redeem him somewhat. Otherwise, his actions are really no better than Duryodhan's in my eye.

Thank you! :)

I don't hate him, lol. I dislike his character a bit, but not hate. To me he's in the category of Bhishma and Drona - flawed but not evil or virtuous.

I disappear when you discuss, and will come sometime later, read all cluelessly and type a Hii, and vanish again 🤣
But, seriously, your Question made me cry Panchu Akka 😭 I've never known of the bashers, cause our family instead worships him along with Draupadi Mata. I've been inside my family only for years and only know that he's the one to be worshipped. I never knew people bash or be against him. But I recently realised the mess 🤢

Hiii Maa! 🤗
