Rajeev Khandelwal is a force to reckon with when it comes to Indian Television and he has proved his mettle once again by essaying the volatile Kabir Sharma on Sony TV's Reporters to perfection.
TheTellyTimes was able to get in touch with the seasoned actor and he graciously answered all the questions ranging from his work ,his passion for travelling to his conspicuous absence from the social media with aplomb and sincerity.
Here are the excerpts from the interview (Part 1) with the heartthrob
Rajeev Khandelwal...You are the flag bearer of the show and yet we hear nothing about Reporters' from you on your personal website or your twitter handle.
We are trying to educate the audience and I feel the channel is doing a great job in creating the buzz. I'm not really the right person when it comes to creating visibility because I'm miles away from even selling myself as an actor. I wasn't even asked to do anything special to create any buzz. I feel if the work is good people will watch it but the audience needs to watch it to know it is good. This is the work of the channel and the production house. Honestly, I have not looked into it that may be I should be doing something!
Are you averse to social media?
I'm not averse to social media. I'm on twitter but that is more of a platform for me to interact with my fans and the viewers of the show. I'm not very regular there but I do visit it once every three days because I know there are people who are diligently waiting for a reply. The love and affection that I get is so overwhelming and it is something I cherish. Given a choice , I would escape twitter!
You have a dedicated portal rajeevkhandelwal.in and that has not been updated in 10 months. Can we hope for an update?
You are putting me in a spot here (Smiles!). My blog has generated a lot of interest off late and there are a lot of requests to update it. It is like the blog has found a new lease of life all of a sudden. I didn't know that the blog was so popular and that people were reading it. It has not escaped my attention and I will be updating it soon.
Your portal is lying in a dormant state. Do you plan to update the pictures section?
I hate pushing my self and I hate getting portfolios clicked. However, you are right and that needs to be updated. A lot of people ask me to click selfies and post but I somehow can't get myself to do that. I don't like being all over the place. It sounds really ironical but I don't enjoy reading about myself. Wrong profession it seems!
We have pictures of you from a decade ago. You look much better now.
You are asking me all the difficult questions (Laughs!).I know I'm a public figure and I know I need to update the images. I do very limited stuff and may be I want to keep my public life separate from my personal space.
So staying away from PR work and social media is a conscious decision?
To be honest yes! I don't want to be sucked in to this whole thing. I don't want that my head to be continuously occupied with the thought that I'm an actor. I'm on twitter because it serves as a platform for me to voice my opinions and there too I'm guarded and refrain from expressing too much.
Rajeev, you have survived more than a decade without getting sucked into madness. I'm sure it is least of your worries. That's a flimsy excuse.
(Laughs!) I have managers and people who are after my life and tell me that Rajeev you need to do PR. They tell me that you are on twitter and you should gather more followers. I hate this word followers'. They tell me that people want to read about it and you don't retweet and you are not active. I just don't feel that driven.
You have a such a dedicated fan following and I'm sure people would want to know what your opinions and thoughts are. You have a presence on twitter yet we don't hear much from you.
I'm not trying to sound humble here but I honestly feel that I don't have too much to offer to the world and people out there. Let's take elections for example, I don't want to influence anyone's decision and I want them thinking on their own. I feel everyone is sensible enough to make their own decisions. I would rather just tweet that go and fulfill your duty as a responsible citizen of the country.
You are such a popular public figure. Why don't you use your celebrity pull to raise awareness for some social projects?
I am associated with projects but I'm not very vocal about them. I don't want to force anyone. If I send out an appeal asking fans to help out the victims in Nepal , I don't want it to be a compulsion for them. Many of them might not be in a position to contribute but they might feel obliged to do it because I have asked for it. It is to each his own. I do speak about issues that bother me. Other than that I don't like influencing people. I like using twitter to spread love and happiness. I send smiles and love hoping that they get multiplied. I want people to love each other and be tolerant. I genuinely believe that no one is superior and no one is inferior.
Stay tuned of Part - 2 of Rajeev Khandelwal tte--tte where he speaks about his passion for movies and his wanderlust...

One of the best actors and best looking men of the TV industry, actor Rajeev Khandelwalturns 39 today. He might be one short of 40 but he still has women from the age of 15 to 40 swooning over him. He sets new standards in the industry with his lover boy act of Sujal in Kahin Toh Hoga and left us equally impressed as Kabir in the recently concluded Reporters. On his birthday, we list down reasons why we love Rajeev Khandelwal...
What a looker
Which girl won't go crazy over those expressive eyes, winning smile and luxuriant mane. Though Rajeev is not the quintessential hunk, he is athletic and has an ageless quality about him. From a classic white shirt and denims combo to a formal suit, he rocks all outfits with flair.
Risk-taker
There are zillions of actors in the TV industry who stuck to a set role after achieving success from a particular show. However, Rajeev has always been a risk-taker. After enjoying immense success as a lover boy in Kahin Toh Hoga, he quit the show to do a Time Bomb on Zee and Left Right Left. Even his first film, Aamir was an offbeat one. He was quoted as saying, "I am not a businessman who thinks of replicating his success wherever he goes. I don't think about my career from the point of view of success." Though he was a bit shy, he did not hesitate from locking lips with Tena Desae in Table No. 21.
Great performer
Rajeev always gives cent per cent to a role. He has done limited work so far but every performance of his has been recognized. Like Sujal, Captain Rajveer Singh Shekhawat of Left Right Left was also loved by all. At a young age, the actor played the role of an Army man and mentor with perfection. His histrionics in films like Rajkumar Gupta's Aamir, Bejoy Nambiar's Shaitan and Aditya Datt's Table No.21 also earned good reviews from critics.
Loves outdoors
In an era, when guys swear by the gym and being metrosexual, Rajeev has that bit of rugged masculinity about it. The actor is known for his passion for love drives and camping. He has made long trips to Ladakh and Lahaul and Spiti Valley in Himachal Pradesh and swears by his camping gear. Adventurous, resourceful and a nomad at heart...don't these add up to his sex appeal.
Keeps it private
Though it was rumoured that Aamna Sharifand he were dating during Kahin Toh Hoga both parties denied it. Rajeev laughed off the gossip saying that he and Aamna enjoyed rumours. However, he has been more forthcoming with information on his wife, Manjiri Kamtikar whom he married after two years of courtship. He is not too active on Twitter or Facebook as well. A star is one who has that aura of mystery...right?
Romantic at heart
Rajeev is a romantic at heart. After Kahiin Toh Hoga, the actor said he wants to do an epic romance (something we are dying for!) on TV or film. The actor after marriage once confessed to Bollywoodlife that he still finds women hot but doesn't ask them out as he's hitched.
