Untold story of Mahishmati

Anand Neelakantan on writing a trilogy as a prequel to Baahubali' and the first book The Rise of Sivagami'

When writer Anand Neelakantan got a call from filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli, he didn't expect it to change the course of his writing.

Rajamouli had read Neelakantan's book Asura, appreciated his work and asked if the author could come and meet him. That "casual meeting" led to Neelakantan working on the trilogy S.S. Rajamouli's Baahubali - Before The Beginning', a prequel to Baahubali, tracing the early years of Sivagami and Kattappa.

The first book of the trilogy, titled The Rise of Sivagami (Westland publications), will be out this March and the book cover will be unveiled on January 20 at Jaipur Literature Festival 2017.

The author says, "I had a casual chat with Rajamouli in Hyderabad, during which he asked me to write a few scenes. I wrote about 10 and he ranked each of them, marking some as 7/10, 10/10 and some others as 2/10, 3/10 and so forth," laughs Neelakantan. Then, Rajamouli asked him if he could write a prequel to Baahubali and weave in the scenes rated 7 and above into the books.

The prequel trilogy builds on the backstories of Sivagami and Kattappa. "In The Rise of Sivagami, you will read about her as a 17-year-old. She is an orphan who faces many challenges and the story will trace her rise to power. In the third book, Baahubali and Bhallaladeva appear as children. The trilogy will also focus on Kattappa's early years and how he grew in stature to earn Sivagami's trust," Neelakantan explains.

The untold story of Mahishmati kingdom and its politics will have many new characters. "There are good, bad and ugly characters that have made Sivagami the strong woman she is," adds Neelakantan.

The writing process was unlike what Neelakantan had dabbled with before. "Years of research went into my books Asura, Ajaya and Kali; the narrations were based on Ramayana and Mahabharata, only the perceptions differed. In this case, I had to come up with a plot and write the first book within 90 days. I overshot the deadline and finished it in 108 days," says the writer.

The second book is due in November.

The trilogy will be in English, and soon translated into other languages.

Anand Neelakantan's writings

* Asura: Tale of the Vanquished narrated the story of Ravana and his people.

* Ajaya: Roll of The Dice looks at Mahabharata from the point of view of Kauravas.

* Rise of Kali, the author's recent book, is Mahabharata told from Duryodhana's perspective.

* Anand Neelakantan has also written for television series Siya Ke Ram, Chakravarthin Ashoka Samrat and Sankatmochan Mahabali Hanuman.

some 6 commandos dying in the hands of one local Rowdy
Oh! please
Also a commando attacking for his person problems
taking other commandos with him, without informing his higher ups🤢
Is this the same ST who glorified our armed forces with Rudra?😲

Second ep was far better and the fl seems like another innocent girl out there
Anyways if they don't get TRP it will become a love hate story

I saw the first 2 eps
As u said the first ep actually made a mockery of armed forces
And b4 this ST made many shws on Gundas
But in none of them the police forces were maligned as such
Not even in GKD
Moreover police forces mostly go wrong, but army/BSF etc being wrong or corrupt is near to unbelievable

FL is too naive lol she kept on crying and weeping, didn't like it...
Another thing i didn't like was Veer giving that jhootha chocolate to Rangeela 😕😆

What I liked was Rangeela's shiv wala dance 😛
Liked Param's acting n the actor playing Veer is also good

bold- sigh!!! And trp aunties didn't like this 🤢🥱

Hello guys!!! 🤗
I saw the first two episodes of Ghulam. It was different from ST's previous shows. All of his previous shows had a subtlety and charm which is missing in this case. Also this show is so illogical. How can one person defeat 4-5 trained NSG Commandos?? They are the most elite forces of our country.During the 26/11 attacks, these Commandos were the ones who brought down the terrorists.
I find this to be really degrading.ST had projected the BSD so realistically in RR.Then what happened now??

Moreover the female lead is too boring. All she did was cry.

The only good thing about the show is the acting of those two guys Param and Vikas who play Rangeela and Veer.Though I didn't like Veer's character but his acting was good. Also Param is a really good actor.

Like u said police atleast we could accept but not our armed forces

@red for a moment I thought he is going to throw it
for Rangeela to eat it(like a dog🤢)
Thankfully atleast he gave the tasted one😆😆

Nithi's role is nothing new
being innocent is ok, but being a cry baby and coward...
Let's see it was just few mins we got to see her

Veer guy's acting is good
Param hmmm...I think if u leave action scenes aside
we didn't see a scene where he was emoting
so need to wait and see

Few more eps, if it continues like this
I will just drop it and move on
No worries when CK is on the way😉

Ya right Mano!! Police would have been acceptable to some extent but armed forces and security forces can never be degraded.
I used to watch Param's previous show on and off.He was good over there.Let's see how good he is as Rangeela.

I just can't wait for CK to come. I am excited for the promos too.SKR's initial promos were so stunning.

Hi Mano 😃

Even police are not shown like this!!
Rem in GKD Avdesh had fights with other local Gundas
With Ranvijay in crossfiring he lost

Lagi tujhse lagan etc n then there were few more good shows on Gundas, usually they don't show police etc in bad light..

Haan ST usually shows innocent but strong FL
Maybe this FL becomes strong later

Abt Param, I was talking abt action scenes only, he was good there...rest was ok

I watch Beyhad usually 9 pm
Thats why wasn't keen to watch this one
But found beyhad a bit like RSSI last few eps 😕😆
so gave a try to this , Will keep switching btw the 2
Need something to watch while having dinner 😆😆

As u said CK is on it way 😳 n Bajirao too 😛
