Sara did not fall in love with Asher on her own. She had this idea planted in her mind by his mother and her that it was ultimately Asher she was going to end up with. Sure him being her best friend did not help either. And over the time, fall in love she did. Love for her was some sort of obsession, because after time Asher had become some sort of thing to achieve.

Asher was never in love with Sara. He cared for her. A lot if I may add. And if given the time and circumstances, he might would've fallen in love with her as well. If he could fall in love with Khirad, someone who was so different from him, he could've fallen in love with Sara as well. The reason why Asher loved Khirad was so deeply was her innocence and her pure heart. Sara was not essentially a bad person as well. So them falling in love isn't just as ridiculous idea.
