BOLLYWOOD NEXT FOR SADAN

Designs for 22 Yards starring Barun Sobti & Suzanna Mukherjee

Lucknowite and Delhi-based fashion designer Sadan Pande has turned costume designer for Bollywood film 22 Yards starring Barun Sobti and Suzanna Mukherjee. After designing small portions for Dhamaal, Bhindi Bazaar and Coffee House, he has now bagged an entire film.

The first schedule of the film has already been shot in Kolkata.

"Lead actor Barun Sobti is my friend's best buddy. He recommended me to producers Maitali-Samrat and I went to Mumbai to give a presentation. Initially, I was supposed to design only for the lead actors. Then, I prepared a look book for all the main characters as per the narration and that is how I came on board as costume designer," he tells HT City during his hometown visit.

Maitali Ghoshal is directing the film. "As the name suggests, the film is about cricket and I had to do a classical modern interpretation of a sportsperson. I followed the director's vision for each

character. The apparels are very urbane, stylist and in sync with global trends and brands. The film will have a very sleek and individualistic treatment " modern yet traditional, contemporary yet rooted and urban yet earthy," he adds.

After completing his studies in Lucknow, Sadan joined NIFT in New Delhi and then worked with a fashion house for few years.

In 2005, he started working independently. Four years later, he launched his own label. "I was always interested in Bollywood but wasn't courageous enough to move to Mumbai. So after designing the song Who's Your Daddy Baby! for Dhamaal, I started doing reputed fashion weeks and consolidated my label. All this added to my creditably and I took the plunge. I am on board another big film project, but can't talk about it till the formal announcement is made," he says.

Sadan has also designed for actors Vidyut Jamwal, Sayali Bhagat, Mariyam Zakaria and Sonal Chauhan, to name a few.

His apparels are present in 14 fashion stores across eight cities yet he has not opened one in his hometown? "In these stores, I am present in multi-design outlets (MDOs). I want to open my first flagship store in Lucknow and that is also one of the reasons to come here," he reveals.
