I think the notion of man 'taking care' of woman is gone - Now it is not like that. Everyone has an individuality and losing it after marriage makes no sense. However I do know people who gave up everything to be with the person they loved. Like my best friend in US(she is a hindu and she fell in love with a syrian christian) to marry - changed her faith/her name/accepted christian faith/learned malayalam and is raising her kids with him and is happy being his wife and his kids mother. So maybe there are people who are like that - one who can give up her everything.

I am a firm believer that as much as compromises are essential, retaining one's individuality goes a long way in sustaining any relationship.

Sri - I believe marriage is like mixing Ying and Yang. Some marriages work out better because both husband and wife get to come to the common level much earlier. I do agree retaining one's individuality is necessary however I think that would be a personal call to make. I have seen people who get so involved in the marriage that it would be hard to relate them to the people you knew before.
