Usually the priest will ask the change of the bride/groom for lead during the 4th phera. So they do put a count on the pheras taken don't they. The groom leads in 3 pheras and the bride leads in the remaining 4. That's what they did in my brother's marriage. In my marriage there was no saptapadi. It was karnataka style - more like dhara with milk being poured on the outstretched hands of bride and groom holding a coconut.

I have a very filmi wedding story. First the dulha ran away and got married to the dulhan. A court marriage this time. Then the aakadu dulha ki family decided to have full fledged tamilian wedding to save the face in society. 😆

Why did you have to run away ? I mean is it because you were maharastrian and he was tamilian?

Dips, how romantic 😳.

Mine was a true Bong wedding with endless rituals😊 The only SRJ moments were when the priest of the groom's side and the bride's side got into heated exchange over the way every ritual had to be performed and my uncle and my husband's bro-in -law had to act as peacemaker😆

*In the meantime me and hubby made sheep's eyes at each other and giggled and nudged😉*

Koi Shak. I was married twice to the same guy of course. I got married in karnataka style and I was a maharastrian born and brought up in Andhra and the pandit that my hubby's family called was a typical Kannada guy who performed the marriage in kannada language and I was completely lost. I didn't know what the pandit was saying and I didn't know what mantar I was supposed to repeat and I just didn't feel like I got married. So when I came with my husband to US, I told him I wanted a marriage I can understand and cherish and bechara agreed to my request and we again got marriage in a Temple in US. But got to say this - the pandit when he was performing the marriage was very unhappy. He felt that my husband has gotten me trapped and is going to ditch me for sure. Twice he took me to the side and explained to me not to marry the guy with no family present and no witnesses, he may ditch me. Ab mein kya bolu?

I didn't run away. My family was there with me. He did since his parents were against a maharashtrian DIL.

On a side note. Someone need to stop the gaylestorm before it gains momentum.
