Guys, just one thing I have to say after reading some of these comments: I honestly don't think Madhu realizes anything she is saying is actually encouraging to Sultan. There are two reasons for this: 1) It has been a well established fact that Madhu is unaware of her own beauty/attractiveness to men. That is not something that has changed. In fact, I would argue that RK's betrayal, and the garbage he spouted at her- the fact that she was a chawl girl, the fact that she was unworthy etc, would have had a massive impact on her self-esteem! She's in a low place everyone! Though she does not show it, it is obvious that she still thinks about what RK says/does, and that his words always have an effect. A girl who is such a low place mentally and emotionally- you guys think she has the emotional awareness of attracting another person? I don't think so at all. I think Madhu is just trying to be a good person and genuinely does not think that whatever she is doing can be constructed as an invitation. So if Sultan chooses to fall in love, that is his choice, and in my opinion, Madhu is not to blame.
2) Some girls are not aware of flirtatious mores. Its a fact. I have friends who think they are being friendly to guys and are informed later on that they were flirting and did not realize it. Madhu has been an incredibly sheltered young girl who has by and large stayed away from the film industry (remember she said that should used to cry every time she went on set). All she knew in terms of attraction and love can be/should be attributed to RK. And we all know how that ended. So she does not trust her social interactions except with Aryan, who is a child and thus, unlikely to deceive her.
Is she being selfish? Yes, she is. But I would argue that after everything she has been through, she has earned that right. She should not put her family in danger. Agreed. But if we give RK so much leeway, and analyze him for everything he has done, we should extend that to Madhu as well.
How many people has RK hurt- how many hit and runs? Bittuji said it had happened before and the Mukund case was unique because he could not make it go away. How many directors/set people has he fired? How many heroines has he hurt? Sultan assured Padmini that nothing would happen to them while he was in the chawl, and Madhu believes that. She still should not have let them stay but she loves/needs Aryan.
Let's cut the poor girl some slack. There's a storm coming her way.
