@bold - Because we continuously alternate between being electrons in the ground state and the excited state. Today we were in the ground state most of the time and we had no chance of escaping (exciting) without the help of some external energy in the form electromagnetic waves. In the end some rays of light/sunshine made this possible and we ended up in the excited state, from which there was a slight chance of escaping. And so we did by subsequently emitting energy in the form of light and falling back to the ground state.

Okay, I have lost it completely now 🤣 🤣 ...Thank you for bearing my boring physics pravachan (I learned this new word from Avu today)! 😳 😆
