TOI - Won't mind doing a show for Star Plus: Giaa Manek

As Gopi Bahu, she became a household name and won the hearts of viewers with her sweet smile and charming face. With the show's success, Giaa's popularity grew too and life had different things in store for her.

Giaa Manek gets candid about Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, Saath Nibhana Saathiya and the controversy that seemed to surround her for long. But the petite actress has put all that behind and looks forward to a fresh start.

Your elimination came as a surprise to everyone. Were you expecting it?
It was totally unexpected because even when I was in the bottom three with Karan Wahi and Shibani Dandekar, I scored the highest with a total of 26 points. But I guess TRPs are the most important thing. If I was thrown out because of that, then I respect the channel's decision totally. They are the boss and I want to thank them for giving me this wonderful opportunity.

You sacrificed one show for another. Do you feel let down?
I left my previous show because of torture. My contract permitted me to go ahead but the channel did not want me to. Everyone has the right to follow their dreams. You can't be exploited. They cannot clip my wings. After three years, my contract allowed me to do different things. I'm proud of Jhalak. I am a sensible girl and will think twice!

You came a long way on Jhalak.
I wasn't expecting my elimination. I would have definitely made it to the top three. There are dancers on the show who have been trained for 15-20 years and I survived for 10 episodes. There were people who were scoring lesser marks than me or who were less popular. So I'm sure, there are some people who are happy with my elimination.

Was the competition and rivalry tough?
It happens in every industry. Not just to me. And it's a normal reaction because we all are here to win. I feel proud about the fact that I have emerged a dancer and I will continue to dance and have told my choreographer from Jhalak to continue teaching me.

But you seem to have engulfed controversy with your choice of show?
Everyone has a problem with me doing reality. Ragini Khanna was doing three reality shows duringSasural Genda Phool and my co-star in Saath Nibhana Saathiya, Mohammad Nazim, was also shooting for two films simultaneously with his daily. So many other actors are doing work side by side. Why should I be exploited? I worked so hard on my show Saathiya. I never used glycerin. I cried naturally. The thing with Saathiya was that the character of Gopi and Kokila were more famous than the show itself, so I consider myself very fortunate. I was mentally tortured when I left the show and had to see a psychiatrist.

Does this hinder your chances of working with Star Plus again?
If they offer me a show I will definitely do it. Star Plus made me popular and brought me into this world.Rashmi Sharma is like my mother and Star Plus is like my father.

You've lost a lot of weight during Jhalak and look slimmer and fitter.
I lost five kilos and am a size zero so am very happy. I couldn't do this while I was shooting for my daily. Other actresses are trying to be size zero and I could do it thanks to Jhalak.

Future plans?
I'm going to continue taking risks. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. As of now, I have no immediate plans. Want a week's break of rest and sleep.

Does that leave you insecure?
Insecurities exist in every field. But I'm a very positive person so I am not worried.

What is the real Giaa Like?
I'm a normal girl who likes to go out, party, wear shorts and skirts. I'm like any normal girl my age.

A character you would love to play?
I loved Geet's character in Jab We Met.

Your Mantra to stay positive?
If life is a bed of roses, you won't value it. I don't hold grudges because there are no permanent friends or enemies in the industry. Be positive. It all happens for the good. Something better is out there for me!

I loved Giaa's positivity... She never blame to anyone she be nyc with everyone chahe woh SP ho PH ho ya RS... I really like has sweet n nyc attitude...😉
