Khandaan ki izzat, izz it?
I can't, I'm a Sinha girl... Deol girl... Dutt girl... Kapoor girl... spare us the family saga, ladies!

SONA KNOWS HER MARYAADA
Even before their debut film releases, star parents warn potential directors about preserving their girls' chastity on the big screen. After the debut, they're gung ho about how their little girl will make it big and "keep her maryaada" by never compromising.
TRAITS OF A SINHA GIRL:
• Thou shalt do movies that require you to play the 'typical Indian heroine' as daddy said, even if it means that your second film (Rowdy Rathore) looks exactly like your first (Dabangg), that playing Mandakini in Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2 but not doing her wet white sari routine falls under the purview of the 'typical Indian heroine.' We can only tremble in fear of being subjected to a zara zara touch me touch me, kiss me kiss me by a sari-clad Sona!
• Thou art free to do any role but remember the maryaada of the Sinha khandaan.
• Thou shalt not do any 'item song', but you are free to do 'dance numbers' (although we're still guessing what the difference is).
• No one shalt dare write about Sona's link-ups with co-actors, even though she can gush about them on chat shows
(Ranveer Singh, keep your running
shoes handy always).
LINK-UP? KHAMOSH!
It was widely reported how Sonakshi's link-up to Lootera co-star Ranveer Singh had Shotgun fuming. After reports that the two were celebrating Valentine's Day together, a daily reported how a livid Shatru called up Sona and other unit members demanding an explanation, and that she be sent home immediately! We don't know what it took to pacify him, but we do hope the film's crew wasn't put under armed watch so that no one would live to tell such tales.
KHANDAAN KEHTA HAI:
PAPA SAYS: People are praising her look in Dabangg. After a long time, a typical Indian heroine was seen. Sonakshi will continue to do roles that are within the boundaries of selfrespect. She will not compromise her values for some rat race.
SHE SAYS: I come from a certain background and family name. I have boundaries I wouldn't cross. If there were 'such' scenes in any film I was offered, I wouldn't do them. I have restrictions.
MAMMA SAYS: As an actress, Sonakshi has every right to decide what she wants to do and what she doesn't. It's her call. Of course, every family has its own maryaada. We've already told her that we have certain maryaada and she shouldn't cross limits.
WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A DEOL GIRL
Being a Deol beti is no cakewalk. You have a father who was a pehelwaan before joining films, and was the original He-Man of Bollywood, always thirsty for blood (remember 'Kutte, main tera khoon pee jaoonga'?). Then you have an elder brother (Sunny) with a dhai kilo ka haath, jo agar pad jaaye, toh aadmi uththa nahin, uth jaata hai!
TRAITS OF A DEOL GIRL:
• Thou shalt have a licence to slap. Esha was tagged 'Slapping Beauty' after she slapped a young'un who misbehaved with her during the premier of Dus. Then she slapped Amrita Rao, who dared to abuse her in front of her Pyaare Mohan director. Her third victim was actor Zakir Hussain. Though it was only for their role in Darling, the slap was a bit too hard on poor Zakir.
• Thou shalt always say 'My daddy strongest'. Both Esha and Ahana gush over dad and have confessed they want a man just like him.
• Thou shalt obey mommy. Be it playing director to relaunch Esha's career, to deciding Ahana's debuts film, Hema knows best.
PAPA KEHTE HAIN:
• Bollywood is not the right place for girls.
• I want Esha to get married soon and settle down, kaam toh chalta rahega.
• Ahana is a farmer's daughter. Woh mitti se judi ladki hai, she is into organic farming. She won't act in movies ever.
DUTT WOMEN DON'T ACT,
IT'S OUR FAMILY'S LEGACY
TRAITS OF A DUTT GIRL:
• A Dutt girl respects her family's legacy, does not enter Bollywood.
• 'Shaking ass' aka item numbers are out of the question.
• Dutt women are above 'struggling' — something the film industry usually demands.
KHANDAAN KEHTA HAI:
PAPA SAYS: I'm not encouraging my daughter to do films at all. Trishala is a forensic scientist. She has such a good job. Why would I want her to come here and shake her ass in films?
SHE SAYS: He's not okay with me joining Bollywood at the moment. But ultimately, the decision is mine.
