Part 7: Dil Dooba⦠kaisi hai mehbooba?!
BLEEP! BLEEP! BLEEP! echos the shrill sounding alarm. Groaning Donny reaches out from under his duvet, 'CHUP! CHUP! CHUP!' he chimes in tune with the alarm as he hits the button to silence it. Yawning, he stretches and opens his eyes slowly. 'Alarm ki jugah, Henna utthati toh kitna acha hota' Donny moans, unwillingly climbing out of bed. A light smiles curves the edges of his lips as he realizes he's losing it day by day. Ruffling a hand through his jet black hair he heads to the bathroom.
'Nitsss!!!! Sleepyhead!!! yeh aakri baar hai tujhe awaaz laga rahi hoon' verni slaps her forehead in defeat as Nits fails to move even an inch. 'Keep sleeping!!' she mutters sarcastically and walks out of nits' room.
Amrit on the other hand has been awake a while now. She's stood in front of the mirror ready for college, rehearsing some very important lines. 'Notes? Kaunse notes? Tumne toh mujhe koi notes nahi diye teh Henna' Amrit forces a nervous laugh as she triesto put on the most convincing voice she can manage. She sighs as she knows deep down she'll end up speaking the truth only.
Amrit picks up her phone, 'Henna ko phone pe sach bata dehti hoon, aise uski ghusse se badi shakkal nahi dekhni padegi⦠hayyo rabba mujhe toh abhi se hi darr lag raha hai, bolungi kya?' she quickly puts the phone back down as though she'd been stung by a wasp. 'Didi pagal hogayi hain⦠phone se unhe darr lagta hai aaj kal!' mocks Amrit's ever-charming brother as he walks past her room. To this Amrit returns an annoyed looked but says nothing, other far greater issues are occupying her mind.
Tying up her long dark hair in a neat pony, Henna picks up her phone to find the missed calls Amrit had left her yesterday. As she's about to hit the call button there's a call incoming, unsure who the number flashing on her screen belongs to she picks up cautiously 'Hello?'
Donny picks out a nice pair off deep blue jeans and a matching sleek, perfectly hand tailored sweater. Top of the range clothing, shoes and accessories were not an uncommon site in Donny's wardrobe, he was a guy that had it all so to speak, yet Donny could care less for his assets. Whilst changing Donny attempted to pack his bag and eat the breakfast that his mom has had sent up to his room. An old bemaari off donny's β multitasking, something that with more and more practice Donny got atrociously worse at doing.
Interrupted by a knock on his room door, Donny turns to see who it is. As usual it's none other than the devil herself, Saara. 'Kya hai?' Donny mumbles with a mouth full off toast. 'Arre donkey⦠oh sorry.. donny.. donny bhaiyya.. kabhi toh mind your manners and don't talk with your mouth full.' She retorts. Knowing he'll get into an argument with her if he keeps her waiting any longer he leaves his breakfast half eaten. Picking up his bike keys n bag he pushes past saara 'Ab aa rahi ho ke nahi?' his irritation shines through clearly and Saara smiles pleased with herself.
'Haan toh ready ho na?' questions Hussain, glad that henna cannot see the sign of a faint blush on his cheeks. Switching the phone to the other ear Henna replies 'hoon toh sahi, par tum kyun pooch rahe ho?' picking up her bag she looks in the mirror one more time before leaving her room. 'Waiting for you outside issliye' Hussain cuts the phone abruptly. Still standing with the phone to her ear Henna's jaw drops in surprise. 'Aaye haye agar daddy ne hussain ko dekh liya tohhh??' looking left and right she sneaks out off the house like a chorni.
'Husssaaiinnn' she shouts in a quiet whisper 'kya kar rahe ho?!!!' hoping no one at home hears her. She looks at him slightly annoyed. Worried hussain tries to explain, 'Woh mera ghar idhar paas mein hi hai aur tumhara ghar raaste mein aata hai toh maine socha bus mein tum jaogi toh tumhe fazool mein tangi hogi.. aur waise bhi mere bike pe bohat space hai na⦠for one more.' He edges the spare helmet at her hoping she'll grasp it.
'Saara problem kya hai?.. araam se baito, bike ka balance kyun kharab kar rahi ho?' Donny tries looking back at her. 'Rukkkooo' she screams. Donny screeches the bike to a halt. Saara get off the bike and runs back a few yards to pick up her chappal. 'oh god!' escapes from his gritted teeth 'I don't have time for this' he revs the bike n whizzes off.
Saara tries running after him angry, limping like a mad woman with one chappal in hand and the other on her foot. 'Oww.. ouch! Dekh lungi iss deewane ke bachche ko' chucking the chappal to the ground she eases her foot into it and makes her way on foot to college. 'Chudail chappals.. college tak nahi wait kar sakti thi, wahan beshak hazaar baar ghirti!!'
Unwillingly and almost late for college, Henna accepts the helmet. Hussain smirks at getting his own way. 'Par kal matt aana' she says in a firm but polite manner as she hurries to leave before anyone sees. Hussain chuckles as he rides off, 'Aaonga' he mocks. Unfortunately, the curtain at the front off the house twitches as the shadowed figure moves away from the window.
At college, Donny is stood leaning on his bike talking to Garu and Arjun, who as usual are fooling around. 'Saara nahi aayi aaj?' Garu plucks up the courage to ask after much conversation. 'Left her picchli gaali mein⦠aati hogi' Donny replies eager not to talk about her. Arjun nudges Garu to be quiet. 'Thappad na muft mein khaa lehna' he warns.
Eijoo finally arrives and parks up his dazzlingly sporty Mercedes. Slamming the door shut on the other end Saara gets out. 'Yaar yeh ladkiyan bhi na⦠kis aur ka ghussa kisi aur pe' Eijoo tries not to react as Saara is twice the monster he is when she's in a bad mood. Garu cringes at the sight of Eijoo and Saara together.
Eijoo and Saara catch up with the others as they start to make their way towards the college building. A motorbike whizzes past them making enough off an impression for Donny to whirl around to check out the bike 'hot ride, but not as happening as miβ¦' the words are left hanging as he sees the girl remove her helmet.
Not used to motorbikes, Henna get a little caught up and stumbles as she's getting off the bike. Luckily Hussain is able to catch her just in time. Henna clutches on tight whilst Hussain takes the opportunity to stares intently. Blushing with embarrassment, Henna giggles in a failing attempt to cover up the near fall. She thanks him as she finds her way back onto her own two feet. He is only too happy to help, he brushes the hair out off her eyes gently assuring henna is ok.
Donny watches wide eyed, 'Uff faint ho jaaon main!!' escapes from his shocked mouth.
Only a few meters away - almost face to face, will Donny finally approach Henna? Or will he get the wrong impression about her? Maybe she's not what he had thought her to be afterall?!
