1. Shavian comedy:
Shavian comedy is defined as the characteristics of style, tone, and attitude of Shaw. It was witty, irrelevant, paradoxical, eloquent, stimulating and socialist.
Nearly all of the Shaw' s writing deal austerely with prevailing social problems, but have a vain of comedy to make their stark themes more palatable. Shaw examined the problems of 20th century:, education, marriage, religion, government, health care, and class privilege, In his plays Shaw combined contemporary moral problems with ironic tones and paradoxes, Shavian wit, which has produced such phrases:
"He who can , does, who cannot, teaches"
"England and America are two countries divided by a common language"
"Christianity might be a good thing, if anyone ever tried it"
"I never resist temptation because I have found that things are bad for me do not tempt me"
2. Drama of Ideas
A term loosely applied to plays which tend to debate in a witty or humorous fashion, ideas or theory. It is a drama which deals with a very specific problem and very probably offers a solution. This type of a drama is called as a problem or a propaganda play. A sub-piece of the problem play is what has been called the discussion play. This is more like a debate in which character put forward different point of views e.g. getting married in the apple cart .
Shaw is regarded as the greatest Englsih dramatist as he rejected the outmoded theatrical conventions and brought realism on stage. Sexism, sexual equality, socio-economic divisions, the effects of poverty, and philosophical and religious theories were the ideas explored in his plays, thus crediting him with the creation of "drama of ideas." Shaw transformed English theater, dominated by romantic conventions of later dramatists plays called "well made plays" into "theatre of dramas"
3. 20th century wars ' Serbian wars
The British, Chinese, Russian, German, Ottoman, and Austro-Hungarian empires dissolved in the first half of the century, with all but the British, French, and Japanese empires collapsing during the course of World War I. The inter-war years saw a Great Depression cause a massive disruption to the world economy. Shortly afterwards, World War II broke out, putting the Allied powers (chiefly the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom, and the United States) against the Axis powers (chiefly Nazi Germany, the Empire of Japan, and Italy) which eventually resulted in a total victory for the Allies, at the cost of over 60 million lives and the complete devastation of many nations. As a means of preventing future world wars, the United Nations was formed; however, competition between the two new superpowers, the Soviet Union and the United States, resulted in the Cold War, which would dominate geopolitical life for the next 45 years. The Soviet Union collapsed internally in 1991, resulting in the United States taking on sole superpower status, although by the end of the century China, India, and the European Union had greatly increased their influence.
The Serbian Campaign was fought from late July 1914, when Austria-Hungary invaded Serbia at the outset of the First World War, until late 1915, when the Macedonian Front was formed. The front ranged from the Danube to southern Macedonia and back north again, involving forces from almost all combatants of the war.
Once Bulgaria attacked in coordination with Austria-Hungary, the smaller Serbian Army could not withstand the attack alone, so the order was given for the temporary withdrawal to Greek islands. Greece was not a major power, nor friendly to the Allies, and the northern border of Greece offered superior defensive positions for the Bulgarians to defend.
The ramifications of the war were manifold. When World War I ended, the Treaty of Neuilly gave Greece Western Thrace, and Serbia some minor territorial concessions from Bulgaria. Austria-Hungary was broken apart and Hungary lost much land to both Yugoslavia and Romania in the Treaty of Trianon. Serbia assumed the lead position in the new state of Yugoslavia, joined by its old ally, Montenegro. Meanwhile, Italy established a quasi-protectorate over Albania and Greece reoccupied the country's southern part, which was autonomous under a local Greek provisional Government (see Autonomous Republic of Northern Epirus).
4. Army code and code of honor ' the regimentation of ranks:
Honor codes exist at the U.S. federal military academies'the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Military Academy , the U.S. Air Force Academy, the United States Merchant Marine Academy, and the United States Coast Guard Academy.
The military academy honor codes not only govern the cadets' and mid-shipmen's lives at the academies, but are deemed essential to the development of military officers who are worthy of the public trust. As such, the codes are not limited merely to academic situations or to conduct on campus; cadets and midshipmen are expected to live by the codes' ethical standards at all times. Furthermore, they may not tolerate violations by other cadets-toleration itself being a violation of the code, with the exception of the Honor Concept of the Brigade of Midshipmen at the United States Naval Academy, which allows the observer of an honor violation to confront the accused without formally reporting. It was found that this method was more constructive at developing the honor of midshipmen as opposed to a non-toleration clause, which created enemies of classmates and ones true honor, if other than utmost, was not able to be formally remediated when hidden from public view. Under the academies' honor codes, violation of the code is generally dealt with by forwarding the offender for expulsion by the secretary, depending on the nature of the offense and how far along in their training at the academy the accused is.
