Fight to finish
On the tube they're as different as chalk and cheese. Mayank is the strong and silent guy while Nupur personifies bubbly. Off screen, their chemistry is just as crackling. Only, Arjun Bijlani grins a lot more while Rati Pandey is more subdued. They've recently returned from Delhi where they bag...ged Young Achiever's Awards.
In between shots, mock fist-fighting and cracking jokes.. they answer most of our questions too:
Did you encounter any Chironjis en route your flight to Delhi, like Mayank and Nupur did on Miley Jab Hum Tum?
Arjun: No, but Rati was really scared.
Rati: I was scared? You were trembling! He's terrified of flying. He kept telling me, "I think kuch hoga," every time the aircraft lurched.
Arjun: And you were praying every time there was turbulence. That's why I was cracking those silly jokes..
Rati: You cracked PJs because you were scared. Pata hai, the seat-belt sign would go off and Arjun would say, "Arrey, light chali gayi, generator chaalu karo."
Arjun: I cracked those jokes to cheer you up. I knew nothing would happen.. Kareena Kapoor was on board. (Grins) She has great luck.
Rati: We're so tired of these one-day trips. We've been to Kolkata.. Indore. Hopefully, our trip to Delhi is the last for some time.
Is Arjun anything like Mayank?
Arjun: Not really. Mayank is intelligent.. bookish. I'm street-smart but I recently bought this huge
encyclopedia that qualifies me as an academician. We're both mamma's boys. I can relate to him a lot more these days since he's become emotional. He's in love!
And is Rati similar to Nupur?
Arjun: She's a notch lower in terms of volume, but Rati is just as funny and cranky. (At her glare) Arrey, it's not a bad thing to be cranky. She's also pretty, like Nupur.
Rati: (Sighs) I think that question was for me, but I agree with him.
Do you guys fight on the sets?
Rati: Yeah we argue a lot, but it's all in good humour. We make up just as quickly too.
Arjun: Haan she comes to me all senti and says, "Arjun, mujhe rona aa raha hai!"
Rati: Yeah right! He pulls my leg so much. And when he's not doing that, we're arm wrestling. I've broken many haddis.
Arjun, is that how you really injured your shoulder? Arm wrestling?
Arjun: (Laughs) Noo!
Rati: (Scandalised) You think I did that to him? Me?
Since Miley Jab Hum Tum is a teenybopper show, do you guys draw tips from your college experiences?
Arjun: I can't, I used to be more like Samrat (Mohit Sehgal). It's really unfortunate but when a guy is sweet and helpful towards girls, he's labelled a flirt. (Grins) I was sweet and helpful.
Rati: Want to hear about me? I used to be a prankster and bunk most of my classes, specially maths.
Arjun: Yeah that's why the other day, when I asked you for five rotis, you got me three.
Rati: Very funny! As for the rotis, you haven't even eaten the ones I got you. (Pointing to the unfinished lunch on his table) There's proof.
All right. What is it about each of you that annoys the other?
Arjun: She wears this thing in her hair to set her fringe straight.
Rati: It's called a roller, Arjun.
Arjun: Whatever. It's so annoying. It makes her look like a pea**** and makes me want to chop it off!
Rati: My turn. He's always hitting me on my back, punching my arm, poking my shoulder, or tripping me up.
Rati, tell us about the music album you were to launch with Piyush Soni?
Rati: I had plans.. but I don't know.
Arjun: Then we should have a gaana-bajaana sequence in Miley.. probably if and when Mayank-Nupur get married. We have great karaoke sessions at my place. And at Merlin's.
Rati: Yeah, we've been there once.
Arjun: Twice! I keep asking this girl to eat badam, she doesn't remember anything.
Rati: I've been going to Merlin's even before I knew you, okay!
Arjun: Haan, I know you've been doing things before you knew me!
Rati: Shut up! What do you both watch on TV?
Arjun: I watch Miley.. whenever I can. Otherwise, mostly news and movies.
Rati: Miley.. of course. And Balika Vadhu.. Prithviraj Chauhan. It's such a masculine show. I really like the hero and.. (Of Arjun's look) He always looks at me that way when I mention another actor.
Sounds as if there's some truth to your link-up..
Arjun: Please! We're buddies, we're co-stars, we just get along really well.
Rati: And if it were true, why would we hide it?
Arjun: Yeah! I'd cash in on it. Kidding, I'm kidding!
Rati: But hey, I'll let you know if something happens.
