😛

Nice question Smita ji 🤗....

When I was in grad school Pakistanis and Indians were getting along so well as if there was no rivalry between us, some of them in fact lived under the same roof. They were equally involved in celebrating Diwali, setting up the props and participate in dancing as if it's their festival and we would celebrate Eid with them too. So I felt that it was just the border that was holding us apart or else they were just like us.

One typecast question I've been asked here many times is that why don't Indians/Hindus eat beef and/or worship cow that is just another edible animal.

I was shocked when I heard that one of my classmates was married at the age of 16. She said she was so much in love and her bf wanted to join the army as soon as he turned 17, so they thought it would be best that they get married. She said teens 16-18 could get married with parents' consent.

These are the incidents I am writing from others experience

An Indian friend always addressed non-Indians as foreigners until one day an American reminded her that it was she who is a foreigner here, not them.

I have a friend from Tehran and whenever she says that it snows knee length in her place, people (including Indians) are surprised that Iran is not a desert. Some people even think that Iran (eyeraan) is in Saudi Arabia 😆.

Such misunderstandings are common... stereotypical American tourists often do not know the difference between Switzerland and Sweeden. 😆
And, then there are other stereotypes... but... in the spirit of remaining positive, I'll refrain from mentioning them right now... 😃

When you are going to college/school..you have time to assimilate, you make friends ,you have a chance to understand the lingo and everything ,but starting with a job is very different.

In India we have this thing about hierarchy..you respect your boss(even if he is wrong)or atleast pretend to.,even your teachers..and there is so much politics involved.
the work culture here is so vastly different and open it took me some time to adjust
But I was very lucky in my colleagues and superiors and everyone was very sweet.
I just got tired of explaining arranged marriages to them.😆

Even we had to call professors by name and I had tough time 'not respecting' them and initially just addressed them as professor. Got used to the names after a while 😛

And the fact that most of them thought I was from Bangalore...they would be like...let me guess where you are from..Bangalore..and I would say yea just a little south of it😆

haha... I've been asked the same question too.... just that I AM from Bangalore 😆. They will be like.... see I know about India 😆

I realized people are generally nice and we are no different from the rest of them ,you just have to keep your mind open.

Now that u mentioned stereotypical American tourists I remember something... They say that they have traveled around the world. When asked which places they visited they say Europe, other countries in American continent and missionary tour to Africa.... They have a whole new definition for world tour 😆.... And again not everyone are so ignorant 😊
