without knowing the discussion, I would say Americans should totally get over the "polygamy is illegal" thing cuz the most amount of polygamy is practiced in western societies only. the only difference is they are not married to them. I live here so I know. every other person is cheating on their spouse. Americans make such a hu-ha if a man takes a second wife (he's gonna take full responsibility of the second wife) yet having multiple partners is so common here (u just use and abuse and then move on without taking any responsibility).

What was trying to say is, for the Mormons, Polygamy has a religious significance. It seems bizarre to us outsiders, but Utah is really different from the rest of the USA. The law of the state doesn't get in their way, although they can be arrested anytime....
