Forgiven
Broken hearts speaks the truth'? She watched as he left the room, leaving the door half open. She could feel his heart asked questions as she dropped down on the floor. She wanted to stop him. But couldn't. The promise she had made to her mother held her back from doing so. She cried her heart out. Wish I could tell you why I did this Rey. It really hurts me just as much to say such things. Please' if possible, forgive me. Forgive me Rey. I chose my friends and I will have to sacrifice my love for you.
Time passed by and she still wasn't satisfied with crying her heart out, but the closing of the main door announced that Smriti was home. She fixed her face and came out to hear her mother crib about the useless watchman's these days.
Since Kriya knew it was Rey who had done the voice changing to get her out of the house, she told her. "Maa, it was Rey. He had come to meet me."
Before she could continue and tell her that she broke off her relationship with him, Smriti's temper grew to its highest point and announced, "We are going to Dehradun tomorrow itself."
Kriya pleaded to her, "Please maa. Please. They're my really good friends. Neha has been my friend since the moment I stepped in the college. Mom, please don't take me away from them. Please'" she continued pleading and Smriti watched with a blank face on. She felt for her daughter. But she wasn't going to give in. She didn't have any problem with her friends. In fact, she adored their friendship.
What hurt her was that even after all the trust she put in her daughter, she lied to her. Lied to her about dancing and also went and got herself a boyfriend.

The next morning, Smriti yelled out from the doorstep, "Hurry up Kriya. We'll miss the train."
Kriya came out with only a bag hanging on her shoulder. Eyes as puffy as they could get. No interest in life anymore, face fully dull. Smriti showed no change of heart as she locked the door of their apartment and drove their way to the station.
Kriya, being the obedient child, said, "Maa, you wait here, I'll go check when the train will be here."
Smriti held her hand to stop her. Kriya looked back at her confused and Smriti replied, "You are going nowhere."
Kriya got even more confused, "But mom, we'll miss the train."
Smriti shook her head and genuinely replied, "I am going. You are not." She placed the apartment keys in her hands and continued, "I'm going back to Dehradun. You'll be staying here and completing your college. I'm not as mean as you think I am. I trust you Kriya. I always have. But when you lie to me, I don't know what to think anymore. Last night, I saw how much you were sacrificing your whole life. You kept away from dance because I didn't want you to dance. Even now, you are willing to sacrifice your love for your friends and again, sacrificing your friends for me. I am not that mean. I won't let you give one sacrifice after another. All you had to do was tell me the truth. I would have allowed you to do what you want, if you had just asked me once."
"Mom'"
Smriti stopped her and continued, "I'm not done. Listen to me first. I'm letting you stay here for your friends. They are very good and I won't steal that from you. Dance your heart out. But you will stay away from Rey. At least till I can trust that shirtless wonder boy. Promise?"
"That's all I ask for. See Kriya, I don't trust him right now. And I don't want you lying to me again either. You can be friends with him if you want, but nothing more." She put a folded piece of paper in her hand and continued, "Your birthday's after a week. Don't open this before midnight of that day. Okay?"
***
A week later, she woke up on her birthday. She had taken leave from college and hadn't contacted any of her friends. She just wanted to be by herself for a while. She remembered about the note Smriti had given her. Each day, she would look at it and would be tempted to open it, but finally thinking logically, would put it away.
***
Finally the day came, it was Kriya's birthday. She opened the note her mom had given her to read and read, "Tell that shirtless wonder boy to please me if he ever wants to be with you."
Kriya laughed at the note and couldn't have been any happier. She wouldn't have to hold herself back anymore. Picking up her cell, the first thing she did was call her mother.
