Ekta interveiw at during launch of CN
Do you think audience will relate to this show?
Today's women look up to strong female role models and relate to their journey. We have had such women in history, but not much has been said about them. Nandni's character is that of a princess who stands up against a colossal power like Chandragupta to seek justice for the wrong done to her. Fate makes them partners for life, when nothing exists between them except hatred. Though Nandni is a historical figure, audiences will relate to her story, emotions and struggles.
We hear you have been wanting to make this show for a while now...
I have always loved producing romantic sagas, especially those revolving around strong and edgy characters, be it from this era or from history. It's an emotion that even audiences enjoy watching. Speaking of historical stories, I feel that there should be a perfect balance of different kind of stories so that audiences have a variety of content to watch. Hence, the idea of Chandra-Nandni came to my mind. The stories of Chanakya and Chandragupta have always fascinated us, but I had this quest about Chandra's love life and wanted to explore the subject. I have been working on this show since the past one year now and there has been a lot of hard work that has gone into preparing for this show.
How did you think of making a show on their love-hate story?
When we talk about our ancient era, we only remember the various wars that happened during that time. But as much as these eras are remembered for the wars and the bravery of kings, one cannot neglect the women in their lives, be it their mothers, sisters or partners. This very thought prompted the idea of producing Chandra's love story with his wife, Nandni. We know of his achievements, but if we delve deeper into history, there's not much mentioned about their love saga. Keeping this in mind, I am bringing forth an untold story that will definitely strike a chord with audiences.
Love stories seem to have always interested you more than anything else...
I believe romance is a basic human emotion which transcends time and generations. Chandragupta and Nandni's story is very unique as it will defy all norms of love and relationship between a husband and wife. I'm sure the audience will love the show. It has all the elements.
How did you zero in on the lead cast for this show?
I have worked with both Rajat and Shweta. I have always said that Rajat is TV's blue-eyed boy. He is extremely talented and there's something about him that makes him the ultimate choice when it comes to roles like these. He has an aura like no other. This show marks Shweta's comeback on television after she featured in 'Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii'. She is a powerhouse of talent and fits the role perfectly. I couldn't have had anyone better than Shweta and Rajat to play the central characters of Chandra and Nandni. They share an electrifying chemistry and viewers will definitely love it.
