Okay, first of all,why is Mohit not like Sid? It is so because Mohit is not Sid.Both of them are different actors and both of them have their own methods of performing. They act in different ways so it's obvious that their performance is not similar.
Both of them are not portraying Ashoka in 2 different movies or shows. There is something called continuity in movies and shows which makes it obligatory for the second performer to make the viewers believe that they are the grown up version of the first. Looks- the actor cannot do much. But one has to incorporate the younger version's mannerisms attitude and tendencies. Like the new Sushim.MR may be a competent and even an excellent actor but he has failed to make us believe that he is grown up Sid Ashoka. His Ashoka is entirely different. An angry young man who is reserved and bitter. He lacks the fury, 'udhvignatha', emotional outbursts, underlying yearning, restlessness, unthinking and spontaneous madness and decisiveness and stubbornness all of which was what charecterised Sid's Ashoka.MR Ashoka is nowhere a bundle of emotions that Sid Ashok was nor is he a ruthless chand that the character might have metamorphised into. Even then you expect restlessness emotional edge and fury. But this Ashok is directionless and looks blank most of the time. MR has not even attempted to go beyond the script.MR Ashok is entirely of a different colour, not just hue or shade. The difference is all the more glaring when juxtaposed against Sushim who seems to be the perfect grown up version of Sumedh Sushim albeit more evil.
And for those who think that Mohit looks too old to play Ashok,I will beg to disagree. He is in his early thirties and not some 70-80 year old man.More ever ,Ashok is supposed to look more matured post leap.Because the situations and occurances in his life left an ever lasting impact on him.He needs to look like a seasoned warrior,a ruthless emperor,a master politician and a benevolent ruler too.I think that Mohit fits the bill perfectly.Because he has the physique and built for a fierce warrior and the regal and majestic aura of an Emperor as well.It has been 10-12 yrs leap and Sid was around 15 then. Ashoka has to be around 25. MR looks like in his late thirties.
As far as Sushim is concerned, then Sushim's character has undergone no major changes apart from his newly acquired superpowers.Unlike Ashok,Sushim's character is unidimensional. Therefore that character bears similaritities to the pre leap character. The only difference is the actor playing that character.Sumedh was marvellous as Sushim and Ankit is equally good.Ankit has picked up Sumedh's mannerisms a lot. His slanting glances, his evil smile, his walk and hand movements. MR hasn't even given a try to imitate Sid.
The rest is with the CVs.It's purely their fault that they are not exploring the different facets of Ashok's character.Instead of showing him Ashok as a Romeo they should depict the various shades of his personality.Otherwise Mohit is a powerful actor and his perfomance is terrific.I have heard numerous praises of MR as Mahadev. I am not questioning his ability as an actor. But he definitely doesn't look like a 12 year older version of Sid Ashok. Period.
