{ Hi every one now i want to ask one question that who was first love interest of ASHOKA because I read somewhere that MAHADEVI was the first love of ASHOKA it was like first sight of love type thing with him and he was used to continuously love her till his last breath. ASHOKA tried his best to gain a single yes of MAHADEVI for marriage but she refused because he was a barbaric warrior and she was a Buddhism... But ASHOKA did not leave his desire to getting MAHADEVI and at end he got what he want ... at the time of her marriage MAHADEVI was 16 years old girl ... I don't remember rightly but 16 or 17 was her age... when I opened WIKIPEDIA ... I found same thing in it but now it has already changed and many thing about MAHADEVI missing in it... when I read about MAHADEVI in WIKI. Then in it many more things were written and there was not mention anything about KAURWAKI it was only saying that ASHOKA had many wives and concubines and he had top three queen and in these MAHADEVI was his one and only love and because of his true love for MAHADEVI he built SANCHI STUPE... And one more reason behind it was that at this place he got marry with MAHADEVI... Now I am fully confused about history ... someone told me that Indian producers and writers used to make T.V. serials or FILMS without research... I think it is right... plz is it right what I read then plz plz plz tell to production house " NOT TO RUIEN TRUE HISTORY" now I have fade up with all it... now I don't want any more this type of NR at cost of destroy history... plz answer me if anyone know anything about it... plz reply because I am waiting for it... Because this is right time to saving our beautiful or glorious history... Plz reply }

I agree with you but there are many myth and legend behind King Ashoka's history like Ashokavadana,Divyavadana,Mahavasan,Tibetan legend.Also there is Ashoka's rock edicts.Cvs told before the show that they added fictions for entertainment and to fill up the gaps in history.Let's not fight over who was Ashoka's favourite wife. Ashoka loved Devi there is no doubt about that but then Karuvaki was his only wife who has been mentioned in his inscriptions and edicts. The Queen Edict is dedicated to her. This honour was given only to her. Btw Karuvaki was not a concubine at all. She was a fisherman's daughter who converted to Buddhism. Ashoka married her and made her his queen.There is also details story about Ashoka and Devi in Ashokavadan 😉

Everyone has more or less agreed that Ashok's queens are

1) Devi or Vidisha Devi
2) Asandhimitra
3) Kaurwaki
4) Padmavati
5)Tishya Rakshita

Now in addition to these he had several concubines as well. He was a polygamist and may have loved one or more of them at different periods of his life.Contrary to what CAS writers try to sell you, this is not a Hindi film about Emperor Ashok's one and only love. Times were different. We can't apply our sensibilities to a historical figure.

Devi or Mahadevi as you say was Ashok's first wife by whom he had two children-Mahendra and Sanghamitra.He married her when he was the Governor of Ujjain. Apparently she did not have a taste for the Court life at Pataliputra and chose to remain behind in Vidisha with her children.We can assume that since she was a Buddhist she didn't approve of Ashok's bloodthirsty ways and the war for the throne.
