Bindusar was already married to charumitra and their son Sushim was 1 yr old when he went to the forests in the outskirts of Pataliputra for hunting. His stepmom helena's henchmen attacked him in the forest and tried to kill him. Mir Khorasan's son, who went with the king, died while protecting Bindusar and a severely injured Bindusar escaped, barely alive, into the depths of the forest. He lost his consciousness and that was how Dharma found him. She took him in and treated him. When Bindusar recovered he fall in love with Dharma and married her. After a while Mir Khorasan who was combing down the capital city and its outskirts in search of the king came across the king in Dharma's cottage. He asked the king to come with him but the king refused. Bindusar wanted to bring Dharma with him to the palace as his wife but Dharma said that his first responsibility was towards the kingdom and that he can always come back after settling down the chaos that resulted in the kingdom as a consequence of the news of the king's death and take her with him. Bindusar promised her to come back for her and went back to the city with Khorasan. As Bindusar had promised Khorasan before leaving for the forest that he would marry the latter's daughter, he married Noor. On their wedding night Bindusar revealed to Noor that he could not love her like he loved Dharma, his 2nd wife. Noor complained to his father about Dharma and Mir Khorasan, along with his troop went to the village area where Dharma used to live with her father and killed her father and also set fire to the cottage with Dharma inside it. However, Dharma, who was pregnant with Ashok at the time, somehow escaped the clutches of death and left the city for good alongwith her son who was born inside the burning cottage. After about 14 yrs Chanakya came across Ashoka who was living in a forest and come to know the truth of Ashoka being the son of Bindusar. he brought Ashoka and his mother to the city of Pataliputra. Gradualy a very strong bond began to form between Ashoka and Bindusar, both of whom were unaware of the true relation they share. In order to save both Dharma and Ashok from the king's enemies chanakya asked Dharma not to reveal her identity to the king till he says so. on chanakya's advice Dharama is working as a maid in the palace. However now that ashok had come to know that his father was in the same city by eavesdropping into a conversation between Dharma and Chanakya he wanted to find him out.

Oh and Subhrasi is Bindusar's youngest queen whom he married after noor.
