SRK on Diwali highs, new releases and the festival his kids love the most
Movies that come in Diwali get a fillip because of the time period – you get a 10 per cent increase in business. So any film coming in Diwali has that advantage. Om Shanti Om could also have come post-exams, as a summer blockbuster. Now how do you end your festivities on a high? You see Om Shanti Om. It's a happy film.
During Eid, we do the namaz and the sacrifice; on Diwali, we do the puja. The whole household gets together, including the staff, and we get someone to lead us in the puja. I think it's important that kids know the discipline of this. I believe they will grow up to be a little more secular if we do it all round.
My friends the Moranis bring crackers for Diwali — they have a cracker factory. I'm scared of crackers so I don't go near them. I just do the phooljhadi, but I stand there while they do the others. Aryan and Suhana bring their friends over. They really enjoy it. I believe it's nice also because sulphur goes in the air and kills all the mosquitoes. That's what Diwali is for!
But from all the festivals, it's the Christmas tree that the kids get most excited about. So we buy it from London because we don't get it here. We'll put presents under the tree and kids enjoy that.
