SRK's girl says no to Salman

Model-turned-actress Deepika Padukone, has politely declined playing Salman Khan's love interest in Boney Kapoor's next film (a remake of the Telegu hit Pokhiri).

She presently plays the female lead opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Om Shanti Om, Apparently Deepika backed out at the eleventh hour in a very unprofessional manner.

Sources report Boney kept waiting for her at a suburban preview theatre for the screening of the original film, so that she could get a feel of her role. But then, her business manager called him 15 minutes before the show and said she was not interested in doing the film.

"A screening was supposed to happen but it didn't, as Deepika informed me in advance that she couldn't do it. I wanted this film to be her next after Om Shanti Om and I had categorically told her that. But she told me it won't be possible as she was committed to other projects," says Boney.

Boney continues, "I have shortlisted two new faces and I will soon announce the name of the girl who will play the lead opposite Salman. Shooting starts in June."

Deepika had a different story to tell though, "I only met Mr Kapoor once, and all I was told is that the film is a remake of a South film, Salman will be the hero and that he would produce it. Beyond that, no details were discussed. I was told that they would get back to me about the screening."

Deepika avers that she has been a model for quite some time and is known to be extremely professional.

"The screening was supposed to happen provided both parties agreed on a time and date. Later, they themselves told me that there was no point in arranging a screening if I wasn't doing the film. Mr Kapoor's secretary Shyam coordinated the entire thing. If there was a miscommunication from his end, I don't know."

SRK likes giving lectures

SRK has become a wise man. And guess what a wise SRK likes to do? He likes to lecture his co-stars. And his audience more often than not is none other than the young Deepika Padukone, who is a part of Farah Khan's Om Shanthi Om. But Deepika isn't complaining. She is , in fact, deeply motivated by Shah Rukh's words. A unit member tells us, "When Shah Rukh talks, everyone listens, because he makes a lot of sense." Sense & sensibility, that's Shah Rukh for us!

Deepika Padukone says no to role with Salman

12th Apr 2007 17.25 IST
By ApunKaChoice

Model-turned-actress Deepika Padukone is getting plum offers from Bollywood at the very start of her career.

Deepika will make her debut opposite none other than Shah Rukh Khan in Farah Khan's movie Om Shanti Om It is a dream project any newcomer could ask for.

Even though there are many months for 'Om Shanti Om' to hit the theatres, Deepika has got a big movie offer from Boney Kapoor

Boney is producing the Hindi remake of Telugu hit Pokkiri . The film will have Salman Khan essaying the lead role.

It is learnt that Boney approached Deepika to play Salman's heroine in the film and she expressed some interest. There were also plans to hold a special screening of 'Pokkiri' so that Deepika could get a taste of her role in the film.

However, Deepika politely declined the offer to do the movie because she is contractually bound by Red Chillies Entertainment and cannot sign any other film until 'Om Shanti Om' releases.

Sources say Deepika had no problem about working with Salman. She bowed out solely because of the contract.

In the meantime, Boney Kapoor is learnt to have zeroed on two new girls. An announcement will most likely be made in the coming days about Salman's heroine in the film.

Deepika Padukone or Harman Baweja?

It's time to launch some new faces in Hindi cinema, and directors Farah Khan, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Harry Baweja are busy with just that.

When we visited Film City last week, what struck us is the number of newcomers to be launched this year – Farah Khan will launch Deepika Padukone in Om Shanti Om, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Saawariya will see the debut of Ranbir and Sonam Kapoor while Harry Baweja will launch son Harman Baweja in Love Story 2050. All three films are being shot at the same time, and all are scheduled to hit the screens sometime in November this year. What's to be seen is which newbie will make the most impact!

Deepika's Got It!

Badminton champion Prakash Padukone's daughter is likely to crackle on the silver screen soon. The cast and crew of Shah Rukh Khan's home production Om Shanti Om (OSO), say the girl shows a lot of promise. But she's being kept strictly under wraps for the moment. Incidentally, SRK's OSO has the highest bidding going on for its worldwide rights. While trade papers say that an overseas film corporate has already bought the rights for something to the tune of Rs 80 crores… the conservative lot put the figure down to a little less. But even with the marking down, OSO will be the film sold at the highest price ever.

Ranbir to romance SRK's Girl

Siddharth Anand tried hard to keep the cast of his next Yash Raj film under wraps because the young director was not allowed to talk about his next film as of now.

Unabnle to do so the news is that Ranbir Kapoor will be romancing Deepika Padukone in Siddharth's new film. This film is both Ranbir's and Deepika's second film post their debut films, namely Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Saanwariya and Shah Rukh Khan's Om Shanti Om, respectively.

Even though both Ranbir and Deepika are under contracts (until their debut films release) with Bhansali and Shah Rukh Khan's production house, respectively, both newcomers have been given a green signal from both the quarters.

Neither Shah Rukh Khan nor Bhansali wants to bind the two youngsters. They were more than willing gave their consent to let the two debutantes come together for their second film."

Bipasha Basu is also opposite Ranbir in an intriguing role.

The actress isn't allowed to comment on.

LOL!

Actress-in-waiting Deepika Padukone has a peculiar way of smiling: mouth wide open and sporting deep dimples.

Someone needs to tell the Om Shanti Om actress that B-Town belles only giggle, not give a full dental examination!

Deepika Padukone on her alleged link-up with Ranbir Kapoor and working with King Khan

Though she is yet to make her star-studded debut in Bollywood, Deepika Padukone already leaves you bowled with her 'politically correct' statements. While many vouch for her as King Khan's latest prodigy in his upcoming 'Om Shanti Om', she has already had her fair share of controversies and link ups in the tinsel town.

While reports of her link up with Ranbir Kapoor (opposite whom she is cast in Yashraj's next flick) may have left everyone speechless, the former model herseldf looks at it with 'all in days work' attitude. "Being a known face, I guess it's just a habit to hear reports trying to intrude in your personal life. You do tend to get prepared for such things. As long as my family and people who matter to me are by my side, nothing else matters," she says. The industry was reportedly abuzz with rumours on how sparks flew between the two met on the sets of 'Om Shanti Om'

So, the million dollar question still remains - who is the man in her life? "You need the right compatibility with each other and have a certain level of understanding with the person whom you want in your life. You cannot plan who you fall in love with," explains the debutante, steering clear of taking any names.

While her character in her debut movie may have been kept under tight wraps, director Farah Khan sums up all the questions saying she is making the biggest movie of the year. And Deepika couldn't agree more. "If Farah says so, she is right. She is making the biggest blockbuster," she smiles.

So, any memories that she is taking along of her experience with the super star? "Shah Rukh is a wonderful person. Every day, every minute of the shoot, he lived up to that persona and the 'King Khan' tag that he carries," recalls the Maybelline brand ambassador.

So, is she bound by a contract with SRK's production house as rumours suggest? "Once you are associated with a movie, I think it's just fair if you are asked to give 100 percent of your time and attention. Shah Rukh and Farah will always be there to support me and guide me in the future," she signs off.

'My debut has everything, and to top it all... SRK!'

23 Jun, 2007 l 0000 hrs ISTlRAUL DIAS /TIMES NEWS NETWORK

Deepika Padukone talks exclusively to LT about Bollywood, boys and bikinis...

SheE walks across the room with a confident yet measured stride, head held up high, eyes ablaze with determination. But interestingly , there is something about Deepika Padukone that tells us that somewhere within that seemingly reserved exterior there lives a simple and shy 21-year-old girl who can't wait to conquer the big bad world of Bollywood.

Well, the hype surrounding her is already there and why not! For November 2007 will see Deepika make her debut opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Farah Khan's Om Shanti Om (OSO). Hype or no hype, Deepika is nonplussed. "Hype is great. Although I have never gone out of my way to generate it," smiles Deepika with an intelligent viewpoint on all the buzz she has garnered. "For me, hype only means double the hardwork and it pushes me to work with even more intensity . But that apart, there is bound to be hype because of the type of film OSO is. It's the best kind of debut I could have ever asked for. It has everything - great music, romance and to top it all SRK!"

Although tight-lipped about the other films being offered to her, Deepika does admit to going through at least three scripts a week. "But I have signed on no other film. I can't think beyond OSO. You could say that I'm having an affair with it," she says, the twinkle in her eyes brighter than ever.

And what about a certain affair of the Ranbir Kapoor kind? "I won't deny that Ranbir is a part of my life," Deepika pauses, only to add, "... but as a friend and nothing else. We have been spending a lot of time together and I guess that when you go out with a group of friends, with only two of us being known faces, speculation is bound to be there. And I am prepared for it. It is a part and parcel of an actor's life."

Rubbishing rumours of a roadside fight between Ranbir and ex-boyfriend Nihar Pandya, Deepika gets upset with the very mention of the alleged brawl. "Nihar and I are not seeing each other anymore, so there is no question him fighting over me," says an exasperated Deepika. "Both Ranbir and Nihar come from good families and the two of them don't need to get into a fight - publicly or privately . They are mature and intelligent enough not to fight over me." Still friends with Nihar, Deepika is also hurt about reports that she "used his family to set up base in Mumbai". "That was the limit!

Nihar's family isn't like my family. They are my family and I am their daughter whether I'm seeing him or not," she says with that same determination that seems to be becoming her trademark. "Yes, I am a very determined person who puts her career first - above all things," she says pointedly . "Love and friendship, all can wait. I have lost a lot of friends because of this determination. Today my priorities are my career and my family and I will do anything to nurture the two of them!" Not averse to showing skin, she says, "I don't mind wearing a bikini because I know that I can carry one off. I'm very sure of what I can do and what I can't ."
