Sona fans are making issue of her pay as an issue of women's equality! Ha! How juvenile?
Why should she be paid equal to MR? And who demands unprecedented pay hike in less than one year of her stint?
MR is senior to her in the industry as well as the show. He plays the title role. He is more experienced. He is the face of the show. It's not about gender here. Their work was barely equal! MR had more work to do always and carried the show on his shoulders! So how can anyone be paid equal to him?
Naturally the one who is the face of the show gets paid higher. Smriti Irani would demand more money than Ronit Roy and would get it because she was the soul of KSBKBT.
Payment depends on importance of role, experience, work done on show (duration) etc. and not just gender in TV industry at least. In fact men get sidelined here more than anywhere else!
Sonarika's statements make it clear she was not interested to play Parvati and especially a mother to grown kids. And she found the restrictions suffocating (like not being allowed to participate in dance shows, not allowed to do endorsements etc.). Her demanding equal pay etc. to MR was immature.
She found other pastures greener. But what got her noticed? DKDM! She should have had a sense of loyalty towards it.
Look at MR! He is getting even movie offers from top production houses and opposite top stars. His popularity is increasing with every passing day. But he still sticks to DKDM and respects the contracts that he signed. He plays deglam baba type roles in the show too. Does he make a fuss? No!
It is odd on Sona's part to first sign contracts and then give them notice to leave despite a "no exit" clause for two years. Does she think this kind of attitude can serve her interests or make her a viable choice for any producer in TV or film industry?
Yes PH is also at fault for not sorting it out in a better way. They should have clearly told her they won't pay her this much or declared it to her that they'd kick her out. If they indeed kept giving her reassurances but later took another girl and replaced her despite her statements to media, then this was also wrong. They kind of made her look like a fool.
But as actor you also need to know how industry works. Vivek Oberoi once took panga with Adi Chopra, high on success of Company and Saathiya. He spoke about Salman harassing him too. Today his career is nowhere.
If it is an issue like casting couch or not getting even proper drinking water then you have right to speak up. But other stuff is plain attitude.
This experience should make Sonarika wiser and more tactful. She'll suffer if she becomes bitter or continues with the attitude of saying things as she deems fit. Roz naye ladke ladkiyan aate hain. Kisi ka nakhra koi sehan nahi karta.
You have likes of Aishwarya Rai at her peak, being thrown out of films and boycotted by industry for her demands after she started calling herself an international star. Kareena Kapoor was kicked out of major films and even boycotted by filmmakers who'd been her childhood friends, after her blabbermouth interviews and obscenely high figures she quoted as her price. The Khans had also been kicked out of films in early 90s.
Amitabh still says he has to behave humbly and request for work if he does not get it.
If the seniors and legends also have to tolerate things and be tactful and careful, then who is Sonarika?
Sometimes I think it must have been Sonarika's attitude due to which CVs did not focus much on other tracks involving Adishakti. Warna unko kya padi hai Adishakti ko sideline karne ki?
Her fans or herself badmouthing the show or its makers would be a shame because if not for DKDM there would have been no "Sonarikan" gangs! Nobody would have known her! This show gave her recognition! Even Vidya Balan has not forgotten the small role she did in Hum Paanch and she still thanks Ekta for it. One shouldn't forget one's first source of limelight and success!
