BR Bhaiya is alive in a dead sense. This is how it works. There are two moods of BR Bhaiya.

mood 1: Friendly mood - this is when he isn't disturbed by the things that make him cuckoo for brides. He doesn't have enough energy to maintain his own body (and there really isn't a need to since he is just chilling anyway). So he has to find shelter in a dead body. He prefers being alone, and is a friendly person.

mood 2: Monkey mood - this is when he gets turned on by music, alcohol, suhag ke nishan, etc and can't control his rage. He becomes a were-monkey. He doesn't kill while in dead body, he kills in his body. But that takes up a lot of energy that's brought in by his rage.
