22 'Billo Rani' (Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal) Music By Pritam Chakraborty Performed By Anand Raaj Anand, Richa Sharma
Our reviewer Aly Kasaam: "Brilliant is all I have to say for the first track of the album. Titled Billo Rani, this track embodies a festive mood with unbelievable mass appeal. It's semi-qawwali with great beats that make for an extremely catchy listen. Kudos to Javed Akhtar for writing playful yet wonderfully crafted lyrics. It's nice to hear Anand Raj Anand after so long, but it's Richa Sharma who hogs the limelight and is absolutely outstanding!" What more is there to say?
21 'Ma' (Taare Zameen Par) Music By Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy Performed By Shankar Mahadevan
One of the most beautiful songs on our list: it tugs at your heartstrings. The lyrics are so moving and the song was tailor made for Mahadevan's voice. Once seen in the film, the song becomes even more emotional and you only love it more. A triumph.

Another song that no other word but beautiful can describe. Sara in her review for Bollyspice magazine said, "Mustafa's emotional and soulful rendition is exceptional and leaves a lasting impression on the listener. Pritam's composition in this track is best of the soundtrack as are Sayeed Quadri's passionate lyrics. A winning track!"
19 'Chak De India' (Chak De India) Music By Salim-Suleiman Performed By Sukhwinder Singh, Salim Merchant, Marianne D'Cruz

17 'Jhoom Barabar Jhoom' (Jhoom Barabar Jhoom) Music By Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy Performed By K.K., Sukhvinder Singh, Mahalaxmi Iyer, Shankar Mahadevan
One of the longest songs on our list, but you never tire of listening to it. It has many different musical styles fused into one, and is sung spectacularly by KK, Sukhvinder Singh, Mahalaxmi Iyer and Shankar Mahadevan. One thing that stands out is the punjabi beat that flows through the song that just gets inside you and makes you sway.
16 'Tera Mera Milna' (Aap Ka Surror) Music By Himesh Reshammiya Performed By Himesh Reshammiya, Shreya Ghosal
The debut film of "Himesh the actor" was a surprise hit, and everyone was impressed with his performance. The songs were of course composed by "Himesh the music director", and this one has some marvelous harmonies. When Shreya Ghosal begins to sing it gets even better. Overall, a lovely romantic song.

All about the discovery of first love, it musically portrays this in a fresh new way. Another fabulous track sung by K.K., this starts out a bit electronic, then goes to rap, then turns to the talent of KK singing a ballad, a bit of rock is thrown in, then back to rap, and back to K.K.. It is a wicked sounding song that was huge hit on the charts.
14 'Jab Se Tere Naina' (Saawariya) Music By Monty Sharma-Sanjay Leela Bhansali Performed By Shaan
'Jab Se Tere Naina' is a very musically intricate, bewitching song that shines among the stars of the soundtrack to Saawariya. Sung wonderfully Shaan, the lyrics are one of the highlights. Aka the "towel song", many are awaiting the day when they can see Ranbir's towel drop!
13 'Ajab Si' (Om Shanti Om) Music By Vishal-Shekhar Performed By K.K.
One of the prettiest songs on the Om Shanti Om album, 'Ajab Si' is very melodious and has a lyrical quality that makes you want to listen to it over and over again.
12 'In Dino' (Life in Metro) Music By Pritam Performed By Soham
Life in Metro is one of the best albums of the year and this song contributes to quality of the album. Sung soulfully by Soham, this track is a treat for the ears. The music is much more western than many of the songs on our countdown: it has a soft rock flavor to it. An all around great song to put on your playlists!
11 'Labon Ko' (Bhool Bhulaiyya) Music By Pritam Chakraborty Performed By K.K.
During the song the music surrounds you, and K.K. sings the slow song superbly. He manages to evoke passion and longing in his voice and it is one of the highlights of the album.

With so many different singers you would think the song might be a bit of a mess, but it is a masterful blending of all their voices and it also highlights each when they sing alone. It has a traditional beat but adds a western flavor that enhances the track.
9 'Aaja Nachle' (Aaja Nachle) Music By Salim-Sulaiman Performed By Sunidhi Chauhan

It has a mixture of English and Hindi lyrics that is sung wonderfully by Neeraj Shridhar. Bhool Bhulaiyaa is a song to get your groove on to, and many did since it hit number one on the charts!
7 'Deewangi Deewangi' (Om Shanti Om) Music By Vishal Dadlani-Shekhar Ravjiani Performed By Shaan, Udit Narayan, Shreya Goshal, Sunidhi Chauhan, Rahul Saxena
This song was the talk of the town even before the movie came out because it was picturized on 30 superstars. This very peppy number perfectly complimented each star's appearance. With its catchy lyrics, you can not help but sing along (with the stars too) especially in the part All the Hot Girls Say Om Shanti Ommmmmmm.
6 'Mauja Hi Mauja' (Jab We Met) Music By Pritam Performed by Labh Janjua
Since I could say it no better I will quote my colleague Kamna's review: "Mauja Hi Mauja is the kind of track where right from the start you know it's a hit. 'Bhangra' beats, catchy to the core, with lyrics matching the mood and tempo make you want to get up and start dancing right then and there. The 'dhol' is a prominent fixture throughout the song and adds just the right element of a Punjabi feel"
5 'O Re Piya' (Aaja Nachle) Music By Salim-Sulaiman Performed By Rahat Fateh Ali Khan
This is one of those songs that you feel to your soul and you know it from the first notes. Rahet Fateh Ali Khan sings with such emotion that makes it wonderful to listen to. It has many musical changes throughout with a mixture of many different instruments that blend together very well. A great song from a great movie!
4 'Saawariya' (Saawariya) Music By Monty Sharma-Sanjay Leela Bhansali Performed By Shail Hada
On an album full of incredible songs this one stands out as one of the best. The performance of Shail Hada in this song is out of this world. His voice is showcased to the utmost with the brilliant composition of the song. From the first to last note in 'Saawariya', Hada sings it to perfection. One of the performances that will be remembered for a long time!
3 'Alvida' (Life in Metro) Music By Pritam Performed By K.K.
As we said before Life In Metro is musically one of the best. The songs have a fullness of sound that is quiet amazing to hear. This is an outstanding rock song that also has a soft piano and guitar section. K.K. sings the difficult melody flawlessly, and it is performance that deserves a standing ovation.
2 'Tere Bina' (Guru) Music By AR Rahman Performed By Chinmayee, A R Rahman
Of course with the genius AR Rahman as music director as well as a singer, you knew this song wold be something special and it definitely stands up to the expectations. The background music would stand alone as a fantastic piece, but then add in the magic of Rahman's voice and it is taken to another level. Then Chinmayee joins in and you have the making of one of the best songs of the year.
1 'Taare Zameen Par' (Taare Zameen Par) Music By Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy Performed By Shankar Mahadevan, Dominique, Viviene
Since I have all ready written about this song in my review you will have to forgive me for repeating myself. 'Taare Zameen Par' (Like Stars on Earth) is one of the finest on the album. I once heard that the melody of a song is important but it is the lyrics that make you feel. Nothing could be more true about this track. The song starts off very sweet but then it grows into a very musically complex piece. Sung brilliantly by Shankar Madehavan, whose voice quality is perfect for the song. The song has a very heartwarming feel, with lyrics such as:
Yeh to hain sardi mein dhoop ki kirane (Like sunshine on a winters day)
Utarein jo aangan ko sunhera sa karne (Bathes the courtyard in gold)
Mann ke andheron ko roshan sa kar dein (They banish the darkness from our hearts)
Thithurti hatheli ki rangat badal dein (And warm us to the core)
Kho na jaaye ye taare zameen par (Let us not lose these stars on earth)

You can't help but love the song even more. Dominque Cerejo and Vivienne Pocha join Madehavan for another beautiful section and the three of them blend together perfectly. SEL have definitely done it again with this track. This song is one you will listen to over and over and over again.
Narrowing it down to these 25 songs was difficult but it was a very enjoyable task to listen to them yet again. (Though most are on repeat play!) We hope that next year gives us the depth of talent and soul that these songs had and look forward to seeing/listening to who will make the list next year!
